C.J. Wilson: Starting Pitcher (FanGraphs)
Not nearly as pessimistic as I expected.

I would actually argue that the one time spring training performances matter
is in a case like this. I wasn’t at all convinced that CJ would be capable of doing okay after two innings on the mound and when facing a lineup for the second time. He seems to have been satisfactory in that regard so far.
Go Rice Owls!
He hasn't faced that many guys a second time though
His early games he didn’t last long enough to see a second run of the order. And when he has its been days he comes in later and by the time he goes through the order the starters are pulled and its spares hes facing.
His next game he is scheduled to start and go 4 innings at least. That will show alot how guys fare after seeing him once

Fangraphs with the cheapshot at Face's D.
even if sometimes the ball goes towards Michael Young that’s better than it going out of the park

I would be completely unsurprised if first base is worse. . .
. . . but we don’t know who’s going to be at first or very well how good they’ll be.
Good article
I think that does a good job describing exactly why a lot of people believe it’s worth giving Wilson at least a chance at starting.
C.J. Wilson...
is pretty good at getting baseball players out while pitching a lot of the time. So, I don’t assume he’ll stop being good at that if he happens to pitch to the first guy instead of the 25th. That’s all this is about, really, figuring out how to get the most, effective, C.J. Wilson the Rangers can possibly get.
If baseball in 2010 is about maximizing value, that’s what I see this experiment as, seeing if they can get the max out of C.J. Wilson.

OT: Cliff Lee out with a abdominal strain (sniff sniff)
from LOL…
On its own, this isn’t horrible news. But then you go to the online injury tool and plug in “Cliff Lee” and get some unpleasant results. In 2003, Lee strained his right abdomen in camp and missed a bunch of time, only making 23 starts on the year between AAA and the bigs. Then, in 2007, Lee again strained his right abdomen in camp and missed most of April. That’s a history, and when there’s a history, one becomes worried
