This Day in LSB History
On this day, two years ago, we learned that Jason Botts would be making the Rangers' Opening Day roster, beating out Kevin Mench and Nelson Cruz.
And there was much rejoicing.
It looks like we were probably wrong on that one.

Funny how things look in hindsight
Wish the producers/writers of LOST would figure that out as well.
She say she are the manager.

Not like he did much
But I still would have liked to see him get more playing time when Broussard was sucking it up and Shelton clearly wasn’t ML caliber either. Would have made me feel better when they still cut him a month later.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

I thought Botts was going to be able to play
in The Show because of his minor league OBPs and still don’t think he was given a real fair shake by this organization but I was told by a major leaguer in the Summer of 2007 “He can’t play” and sure enough, he hasn’t lit it up anywhere since leaving Texas.

He didn't get enough time to prove himself.
Hipsters, Flipsters, and Finger Poppin Daddies! Knock me your lobes.
They played Botts quite a bit at the end of 2007 (190 PA's)
and he didn’t drown but he also didn’t do anything to distinguish himself either (OPS around .670). Wanna say the team was 20-17 in games he played that year so he wasn’t killing us.
I’m not really sure why they put him on the 2008 Opening Day roster given their obvious negative feelings towards him. They really dicked him around…sat him for two weeks and then would expect him to produce or when he did get in a game, pull him in the 7th inning for a defensive replacement. When the team got out the gates slow and Wash was about to be fired, they cut Botts the day after he hit a HR v the Twins.
Wash will do that to players occasionally – see Brandon Boggs.

In Botts' last 4 games with the team
he went 2 for 10 (double & HR) with 6 walks. They decided to waive him the next day and get in bed with Chris Shelton at 1B until Davis arrived a couple of months later.

I think Broussard was gone
a couple of weeks after Botts was waived.

You're right...
Botts was DFA’d on April 29th. Broussard was released May 15th..
I knew Shelton was platooning with one or the other. Ugh.
Didn't Botts sign with the White Sox this offseason?
Minor league deal or something?

Guy hasn't really been tearing things up in Japan either
"You promised me, Eckstein, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I noticed that during the most trying periods of my life, there have only been one set of prints in the sand. Why, when I have needed you most, have you not been there for me?" David Eckstein replied, "Because my little legs had gotten tired, and you were carrying me." And I looked down and saw that I was still carrying David Eckstein.
Then he grounded out weakly to second.
He just needs
a few thousand more PAs, and a team to guarantee him a starting job into 2020.

I wanted to give him a shot
and he sucked.
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
Where's Botts now?
anyone know?

I'm still not willing to concede the Botts debate...
I still don’t feel like he ever got a fair shot.
Unfortunately for him
he brought shitall else with him other than his bat. So he couldn’t really ever afford to have his bat go into prolonged slumps.

I agree...
and like someone else mentioned, he got shoved around. sat on the bench for multiple games at a time and then was magically supposed to prove himself in the one PH AB he got that week.
(Probably not entirely true, but it felt that way)
(Wife) "So what do you want to watch on the T.V.? UFC or porn?"
(Husband) "Hmm... well, porn, I guess."
When you can't actually play in the field
and you aren’t hitting, its tough to get continuous playing time.
At least Davis was bringing something to the park with his glove when he was sucking.

Sadly for Botts
he brought even less to the park than Sosa.

There was no way Botts was going to take ABs away from Sosa until after Sosa hit #600
Like it or not that was the main thing with the Sosa signing was the publicity of #600.

He got screwed by the stupid Rangers.
