Edwar Ramirez traded for Gregorio Petit, Hernan Iribarren outrighted

PrintPer Jamey Newberg, the Rangers have made a couple of moves, shipping righty reliever Edwar Ramirez to the Oakland A's for non-roster infielder Gregorio Petit, and having slid Hernan Iribarren through waivers and outrighted him.
That clears two spots on the 40 man roster, and seems to indicate the team still isn't thrilled about its utility infield options.
Petit has had a cup of coffee with the A's the past two seasons, and has played shortstop, second base and third base in the minors, with the bulk of his time being at shortstop. He would appear to be now in competition with Joaquin Arias for the Rangers' UIF job.

Yeah
But is it too much to ask that JD find a Venezuelan who can also hit just a bit? A guy who hasn’t even mastered AA pitching isn’t really someone I want getting 150-200 AB’s on my team, even if he’s the second coming of Ozzie Smith with the glove.
Granted, this could all be moot, and JD could have another deal in the works for a really kick-ass utility guy.

He’s not great, but he’s a decent contact hitter with a bit of pop. I could live with a guy like that as my UIF.

I just hope this isn't a sign that Daniels is downbeat about making a(nother) deal
or signing another UIF. Because the 2009 Yankees, the 2008 Phillies, and my agita ~ or should I say, my tsuris? ~ aside, I still think the Rangers could really use a better option there.

This isn't completely fair
since it’s just an anecdote, but if anyone remembers one of the winter league games (I think it was MLBN) where Moscoso started, Petit was the guy who absolutely refused to let him get out of an inning. He could not catch or throw a ball for his life. I remember thinking, figures that an A’s spare would make things difficult for a Ranger.

Near as I can tell he’s pretty limited offensively – zero power potential and a .268/.322/.372 career minor league slash line.
He was however tabbed as the best defensive infielder in the A’s system by BA a couple years ago, so there is that.
