Garko a Ranger

http://sports.espn.go.com/dallas/mlb/news/story?id=5047618

"Texas claimed infielder Ryan Garko off waivers from the Seattle Mariners on Thursday, completing the Rangers' 40-man roster.

The 29-year-old Garko, who will make $550,000, hit .268 with 13 homers and 51 RBIs last season. He would likely fill out the team's 25-man roster as a backup corner infielder Chris Daviis, a spot that Matt Brown and Max Ramirez had been competing for."

Probably better than Brown or MaxRam.

FWIW on the "gentleman's agreement"

If the Rangers could claim Garko off revocable waivers, that means that Seattle was willing to just let him go, so it doesn’t exactly go against the agreement to not grab players off these waivers.

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Possible they called Z and said, “are you really looking to flat get rid of him?” and he said “Yes”.

I thought

… I read that he cleared revocable waivers, then the Mariners waived him (aka, they didn’t even want him on their minor league team). I assume they had to pay some portion of his salary, but as a non-roster deal it wasn’t like they’re stuck paying the entire contract.

He wasn't on the revocable type of waivers.

The question is did Garko have an option left.

The gentleman’s agreement was about not claiming someone on revocable waivers who was going through to use an option. I would think Garko should have used his last option last year.

What do voluntary mean?

The dude abides.....
