Reilly got paid $17 million to jump from SI to ESPN mag back in 2007, when certain media entities still had money. Reilly, whose writing style is best described as "Mitch Albom, but writing about sports, but in a more hackneyed way" had been vomiting forth back page columns in ESPN mag along the lines of—just to take the first one off Google—"Dad played golf and drank-a lot. But he taught me a lot too." Yea. So now, as Deadspin heard last month, Reilly is officially pulling his awful shit column out of the magazine, in order to do more TV and online work for ESPN—platforms he is even less qualified to work on.

Reilly
had a good thing going with that back page on SI. He even put out a good article from time to time in the ESPN mag. Now he’ll just be another hot air-blowing talking head I’m sick of seeing on ESPN. Shame.

yeah
once upon a time he was a really good writer. then he became mr morals, ready to attack any high profile player that screws up.
The Gawker network is not always right or righteous...
…but it is dead-on this time.

Dirk Diggler also hates Rick Reilly

Who do you not hate?
My feelings on Neftali are summed up by the analysis of Babe Ruth from "The Sandlot," "People say he was less than a god, but more than a man. Kind of like Hercules or something." by WestTxAg06 on Apr 12, 2010 3:44 PM PDT

He's terribly annoying
when I’ve seen him on ESPN.
At least Kenny Mayne was/is funny.
just google
rick reilly, hot like the asphalt in _ parking lot (insert city with warm weather).
He has the tendency to recycle any metaphor, similie, wordplay, whatever from column to column.

I love how his book, published, I believe, in 2007. . .
. . . spends a ton of time shitting on ESPN and how unsavory he finds the company to be.
What tiny amount of respect I had for him was lost thanks to that.
Over/Under on the date Reilly lands himself on "First Take"
….sitting across Skip Bayless? I’ll say June, right around the US Open. God help us all….

we can only this leads to
an explosion on the set of first take
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

Isn't Reilly the guy who said
something like “it’s not a good day to be an atheist” during Josh Hamilton’s at-bat in the HR derby in 2008?
I still don’t know what that meant, but it certainly didn’t make him sound very smart. The few columns of his I’ve read on ESPN’s site haven’t had me coming back for more, either.
It was Reilly
makin fun of Hamilton, sort of, for his big christian rebirth and the whole, “I Am Second” campaign.
Dumb.

You're right
Christians are dumb.

Bold maybe certain people are but most as a whole are not.
I am, but I am annoyed by how certain Christians treat people who are not and it makes me question what is the point. I’m not hear to start the debate, but I see and know what you mean.

I'm just being abrasive and over the top
I don’t really think all Christians are dumb.

Disagree.
If Brad Pitt is playing Beane who do you want playing you?
JD: Eddie Guardado.

I was never sure
If it was a backhanded jab at Hamilton or just a straight jab at atheists. But since Reilly comes across so sappy/sentimental in his articles, I was leaning toward the latter.
Well.....lots of people hate Gawker right now over the iPhone 4 scandal....
It's Time.....for something!!
the one thing i hate about deadspin
is the shock jock wanna be, drew magery. He’s terrible.

and by scandal they mean what?
good business decisions?
evidently from the time they put it up until mid afternoon they had 2.5 million hits
now, was that worth paying the 5 or 10k they paid for it?

Oh, look
One Gawker media property is referencing what another Gawker media property “heard last month.” Don’t get me wrong, Rick Reilly is a bad writer and a simpleton; but Christ almighty the folks at Gawker are becoming far more smug than the print-media dinosaurs they’ve displaced.
