Et tu, Mavericks?

Dallas Basketball Ltd., which does business as the Dallas Mavericks, had a net loss of $50 million in the fiscal year ended June 30, the lawsuit said. The team has lost $273 million since Dallas billionaire Mark Cuban took over as majority owner in 2000, Perot alleged.

DMN link

(edit: I sort of buried the lead, but Ross Perot Jr is suing Mark Cuban per the article)

I know the situations are different, even if these allegations are true, but it is troubling none the less because I doubt Mark Cuban can sustain losses like this for too long even if his joint venture with Girls Gone Wild...goes wild.

Also, I apologize if this has been discussed elsewhere already today.

I think Cuban really wants to win and will lose money in the Mavericks if he gets to win and have fun

I mean how many people buy a franchise and make money without selling the franchise?

I can't stand the 25th hour.

For some reason I read the book first (reading is for NERDS!!!), and as usually happens, when you see a movie after reading the book you hate it more than a butt shit stain on your new Ralph Lauren sweater vest (the one with the fleece lined pockets).

But, speaking of great links…

Ah, memories

Don’t they just warm your sweater vest, Clark?

Did he do the Contortionist's Handbook?

For some reason it seems like he did, but now that I think about I don’t think that was him at all so I lose. That book didn’t suck too much, I suppose, and there’s some borderline sex crimes in there. I remember enjoying it.

I’m not a great guy to ask about an author’s other butt shit.

I can’t keep author’s straight.

I have no idea who wrote anything.

I didn’t know 1984 and Animal Farm were by the same dude until like last week when I was cleaning out my books to clear some space in my office.

I think I might have like a whole slew of genetic defects, each more horrible than the last.

The stuff I care about I really, really care about and know a shit ton about and will do rapes on people about, but the butt shit I don’t care about it’s like I don’t even see it.

I read both of those books (is Animal Farm a book or a novella? I never know what to call it… fucking crap sticks, dude) in college and studied them in great mother fucking detail.

I just don’t care about authors at all so I never notice shit like this.

Plus, like hungover genital cat said to donkey in the above comment already, the last sentence there was me positing a theory for how I could’ve possibly not known this fact.

great fuckin video

it’s missing the quote from the 1st scene in the 1st episode though, “you got to, it’s america man.”

by studcrackers on May 10, 2010 11:33 PM CDT up reply actions

Greatest show ever, period.

Though since you brought up the first episode, allow me some beefs:

The show starts off slowww… You ever try to get someone into the show? Especially a chick? There’s no real entry to the show. At least not in the traditional sense. They don’t give you an introduction into the world, they just throw you in the middle of that butt shit-smelling ocean and say ‘sink or swim, bitch’ and then have sex with you while you try to tread water.

Not really a huge problem, could even be looked at as a strength by some of the art-fart crowd, but they could’ve gotten around this rather easily, imo.

But my real beef with the show is the casting of McNulty and String. Fucking British actors doing American accents is the fucking worst. McNulty’s attempt at a Baltimore accent is one of the worst pieces of steaming butt shit laid out on the counter in a kitchen with a stove in it that I’ve ever fucking seen. Fuck. I’m sure this is what Brits say when they see us trying to do their accents, too. Fuck that as well then. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. I hate McNulty. He’s the absolute worst character on the show, hands the fuck down. Sit down or get raped if you disagree.

Also, Lost is ending with a mother fucking whimper the likes of which I haven’t heard since prom night.

Heh, accents in general really take me out of a show/movie.

Pet peeve of mine, I know.

But I don’t see how anyone can watch McNulty’s character and not get so angry you want to do terrible things to someone physically weaker than you to make yourself feel better again.

His accent is so terrible.

I get so mad sometimes.

Slow starter, like you said with the Wire, but I like it so far. Wife’s family is from New Orleans so I like that I’m learning about the culture and history. I think it has real potential but the jury is still out.

The first sign was probably when their fix to the show getting stale was when he fired his first set of interns to get new faces on board to get new storylines.

The biggest opportunity missed was no hot girl on girl with Thirteen and Cameron.

The scene where Kima reads Good Night Moon to her kid and ends it by saying Good Night to the soldiers, hoppers, etc.

The Snot Boogie conversation from Ep 1

McNulty wondering aloud to the corner kids why they have to kill people to play the game

The Greek saying “Always business” at the end of Season 2 as they leave the country

The investigation of the crime scene where McNulty and Bunk say nothing but variations of the word “fuck” over and over

I think for some of us, it is sort of like seeing Nolan Ryan being credited with the Rangers’ recent success.

This.

It was flawed logic to sign Damp, but at least the logic was “he’s supposed to be a defensive interior presence, vacuum up rebounds and score in the low post a little”.

by jonthefon on May 11, 2010 1:53 AM CDT up reply actions

I don't think

it has anything to do with rededication. I feel like he left here a year or two too early. If he had played with the Dirk of 06-10 then he would have put up the same numbers, especially if he had another year with Terry and Jamison at the time. And the Damp signing is right up there with Chan-Ho for Dallas infamy

by blueballlefty on May 11, 2010 2:10 AM CDT up reply actions

if u keep

jamison and terry and dont get damp you still dont have an interior presence and you still arent going anywhere as a team

Some of his operating losses are offset by appreciation. Not all… but certainly a lot.

Also, as good as they’ve been for quite a while, they’re still under .500 for their history. Damn, they were bad when I was growing up. Anyway, looks like with a good season next year, they’ll get over that hump. Not that it means anything.

Building a team around Tim Duncan sounds awfully easy. Most successful? The Patriots, Lakers and Yankees are still staring.

And well, a Spurs’ fan’s opinion in the second matter is a little iffy. But yes, the “Spurs are boring” thing is overblown at times though not always. I guess speaking objectively, Manu going nova would be enjoyable to a casual non-team supporter and I actually didn’t mind George Hill until recently. But y’know, being a Mavs fan…

Well

the Spurs received the “best all-around franchise” tag for several years during their run. And the ‘boring’ thing is highly overblown – i.e. both series with the Mavs and Suns were really fun to watch.

by 4Him on May 12, 2010 9:25 AM CDT up reply actions

Except, no one wants to watch the Spurs

It’s not surprising the 2 lowest rated series of all time were Spurs Series (2003 and 2007).

If David Stern was rigging the finals, it would be to make sure those dirty mexicans didn’t get to them, and the Lake show kept getting there.

Spurs...

boy did they put up a heck of a fight against the Suns.

And you’re right, nobody wants to watch that team play.

Well, well, well

If it isn’t the guy who thought the Spurs would lose in the first round…

Why couldn’t the Mavs beat such a boring team?

by 4Him on May 12, 2010 2:13 PM CDT up reply actions

If it isn't the guy...

who said the Spurs were the best team in the NBA and wouldn’t be a 4/5 seed.

I love your opinions on the NBA and religion. They amuse me.

It's ok

you can admit that the Spurs were better than you thought…no big deal. I’ll admit that the Suns are much better than I expected them to be. I also believe that the Spurs could have taken out the Lakers, had they met.

Otherwise, I’m glad that I can keep you amused. (However, it’s not about religion – it’s about Christianity.)

by 4Him on May 12, 2010 2:51 PM CDT up reply actions

I said...

the Spurs were a 4/5 seed in the West at best. They were actually a 7 seed, so they were about what I expected. Did they beat the Mavs in a playoff series? Yes. I didn’t expect them to do that so congrats Spurs fans. Your reward was getting your ass handed to you by the Suns.

As for your last sentence there….ahahaha. Thanks again.

The seedings

didn’t really matter that much in the West this season, which is why a #7 could defeat a #2. The Spurs/Suns games were all close, but I have to admit that the Suns were better this year. I sure hope that they beat the Fakers.

by 4Him on May 12, 2010 4:27 PM CDT up reply actions

What does that have to do with anything?

Being exciting doesn’t = good. Being boring doesn’t mean you should lose in the first round. Nice strawman though.

My two sentences

above are two separate thoughts.

Concerning good/exciting: I would much rather watch the Spurs of 2003-07 with all their playoff success rather than the 7SoL Suns of the same time period. Your mileage may vary.

You responded to a post about nobody wanting to watch the boring spurs

by asking why couldn’t the Mavs beat the boring Spurs?

What exactly do the Mavs have to do with wether the Spurs are boring or not?

Spurs in the Finals

If you can’t beat ‘em, don’t watch ’em, right?

by 4Him on May 12, 2010 2:10 PM CDT up reply actions

No one watches them

cuz they are boring.

People

who understand basketball know that the Spurs aren’t boring.

by 4Him on May 12, 2010 2:40 PM CDT up reply actions

when was this?

a google search for

“best all-around franchise” spurs

finds literally zero results.

if your talking about sportsnation naming the spurs their #1 in ultimate standings in 04 i will laugh you.

the mavs/suns series were fun to watch because of the fact that its the mavs and suns…not due to the spurs

is one of them: http://www.thefreelibrary.com/San+Antonio+Spurs+Named+%27%27Best+Franchise%27%27+by+ESPN+The+Magazine%27s…-a0139522524

From your last sentence it is clear that you don’t really understand what is good basketball. And good b-ball is the most fun to watch.

by 4Him on May 12, 2010 2:38 PM CDT up reply actions

uhhh
they are a very fun team to watch

you dont know jack about what “fun” basketball is

the 8 sec or less suns were “fun”
the mavs under don nelson were “fun”

the spurs are boring. they are not even the best franchise in the NBA (are they even the 5th best? in 04 forbes said they were the 11th highest current value in the NBA. behind the other 2 dallas teams and the 76ers and even the kings.

the spurs are a lot of things, but fun to watch is not one

ive never had a problem

watching the spurs. granted the series w/them and the pistons was some just god awful bball being played w/only 2 of the 7 games being good games, but id always look forward to a suns/spurs or mavs/spurs game

I'm talking about the theory that longer series bring bigger ratings.

3 sweeps kinda spits at that.
