Pictures from 5-13 Riders game aka the Kiker implosion
I was pretty pumped to be able to go to a day game during the week with camera in tow, little did I know I was due to see a meltdown of epic proportions.
Kiker was just awful, he couldn't locate pitches and wasn't leaving the mid 80s on the fastball which didn't go well with the 78-80mph change. Balls were going high, they were bouncing in the dirt 3 feet before the plate but did't have much luck crossing the plate for strikes.
Teagarden was playing after being sent down from OKC, falling even further away from his opening day spot with the Rangers. He proved that he hasn't forgotten how to hit but the pitchers need to be AA pitchers.
Flores, Snyder and Reed tried to clean up the pitching mess but didn't have much success and neither did the Rough Riders offense.

I really like the lense
It’s not as flexible as the 70-200 2.8 IS and doesn’t have the reach of a 300 or 100-400 but it does the job.
It also helps that it’s considerably cheaper too.

Love the pics. What pitch is he throwing where is index finger is off the ball?
Not the circle change pic, but this one.
The closeup of the pic of Teagarden with the forlorn look as he sees the Texas Rangers ship sailing away without him is great. Or maybe he’s just looking at Kiker as he returns the pitch. Can’t tell for sure.
That would be called
The Wild Pitch
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
His thumb is tucked under the ball, too.
All of the non-circle-change photos like that show the same grip. Looks like a very strange four-seam fastball grip.

He seemed to throw a lot of changes
since he didn’t have much on whatever bastardization of a fastball he threw. I was trying to figure out what pitch that was as well when i was going through these all I could guess was fastball.
His mechanics seem off, sometimes his arms made more of a T shape. Then his left arm came all the way across his body and down after each pitch.

i think its cutter/slider
the index finger can be on or off depending on feel but i agree the thumb position is odd
great photos
one suggestion. I’d lower your fstop so you get more depth of field, especially in sports photography. You want a little more separation from the background. Otherwise, great stuff.

not all the photos have this
some are spot on

Thanks
I appreciate all criticism, so I can improve.
I do this for fun when I go to ball games, usually I’m dealing with poor lighting or very bad angles but this game was sunny and I got to move down to the first row.
Normally I shoot more open, I was messing around with settings and stops at this game. In the past I’ve had some issues holding focus where I want when I shot fast motion wide open.
