Rangers Mock Draft
I am representing the Texas Rangers in a 3-round mock draft that will be held over at John Sickels' Minor League Ball blog on June 5th. There is an organization diary set up there but I wanted to post this here as well so that anyone interested in making suggestions or discussing possible Ranger selections can comment.
I have attached a poll and have listed four players that have a reasonable chance of being available for the Rangers at No. 15, their first selection. I'll run similar polls for college pitchers and for high school pitchers and hitters also this week.

Love me some Grandal
But I seriously doubt he’d be there.
Based on his recent performance, Renaudo might slip to 15. I’d be very interested to look at him there; he’s a college arm with upside and doesn’t have much leverage as far as not signing.

Heard little about him
Though it doesn’t really matter in baseball, I think he’s a twin.
Heard he’s kinda small for his position.

Also has performance issues in the clutch.
The kind of guy that swings too early, or gets pepped up and loses his head.

He has trouble against lefties. Tends to bail early.
Not much experience against them, says facing one is like an entirely different experience.

He'd be nice, sure.
But even if HS’ers were allowed, AW isn’t realistic.
Cost a butt ton to buy him outta Stanford.
If we were gonna take the risk, we’d take it at 22 on a hard sign like him anyhow.

I work with Michael Choice's mother....
Very nice family….he has been well raised and seems to have some good character. He is still keeping up with his grades, even though he knows that he is about to hit it big.
His mother would love for him to be drafted by the Rangers, and I may be biased but I think that would be a great pick.

Michael Choice
I have seen him play a few times. Pretty good combo of tool and performance. I think the local ties would make him very signable at slot or a tick above it. Id love for the Rangers to get him at 15 and then Cabrera at 22. If Ranaudo was there at 15 thats when i would be cussing Hicks because i would love to Ranaudo there.

Please dear God
Let it be Choice, just for the fact that I don’t want to hear Grieve mention the fact that he went to school in Arlington 20000000000 times when he visits with another team every season. If we get him, we only should have to put up with it his rookie year.
Tom Grieve is my hero.

Choice
I see him at Arlington Community College… er, UT- Arlington, and I’ve seen him play a few games. He’s got some great power, but he isn’t going to compete in the big leagues right away. Give him a few years, and he’ll have the ability to make it.
KLaw has Choice going in the top 10

Thank you Houston for drafting Jason Castro.
I'd be pretty happy with Choice or Grandal
but I think both might be gone.

Seems like a good place to throw this in:
WAR for every player drafted in the first round in the 1990s
-63.4% of first rounders busted, or produced between zero and 1.5 WAR.
-12.9% of first rounders produced 1.6 WAR and 6 WAR. These would be your role players; that is, your middle relievers, bench players.
-12.9% of first rounders were worth between 6.1 and 12 WAR. These are, but are not limited to, your starters on the fringe to average regulars.
-5% were worth between 12.1 and 18 WAR, 6.8% were worth 18.1 WAR or greater. That grouping includes some of today’s stars; Alex Rodriguez, C.C. Sabathia, Roy Halladay, Manny Ramirez and Jason Kendall.
So, about 75% are busts…wow. I stole this from fangraphs, btw.

Weak class for college hitters
Choice is definitely gone. No one else up there inspires. I’ll go Michael Olt, projectable power 3B from UConn. Like him better than Mendonca already.
