can we give Paisano's nickname to Engel if Paisano never makes it to the bigs and Beltre does?
Feliz says his greatest thrill was striking out Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz, one of his heroes. Yet, when he called to tell his parents, his mother had a request: Strike out New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, too.
"So when I did that," Feliz says, "I told my mom, 'There you go. There's your present. Don't ask me to strike anyone else out, OK?'
If Beltre ever makes it to the major leagues, he'd be no mere wind
It would be Hurricane Engel

What happened with DiFazio tonight?
PH for in the 4th inning. Injury? Pulled for promotion?

I think a foul ball came up and hit him in the ribs. So … either he’s got bruised ribs or he pulled his oblique. I’m guessing one of those two things. Oblique’s take a while to heal, if it’s that. Tron will be devastated.

What kind of post-game chat are you going to give Brigham, FB?
The guy is on a baaaad roll of starts. How are you gonna help him lift his game?
after what Nam has done against that same lineup...
I’d just let him be. Or spit in his face.

Scheppers should pitch tonight - just realized that - if every 4th day holds.
OKC game must have started late – rain delay or something – only the 5th inning.
The OKC game is being played in a steady drizzle. Eyre is on the mound.
Wonder if they might protect Scheppers and keep him off a slick field.
I was pretty bummed to not see Scheppers in the box score this morning.
Maybe they’re moving him to a five-day schedule and letting him go 3 or 4 innings.
Pro baseball has always been a dream, so this is pretty freakin’ cool out here. -- Tim Steggall, undrafted Rangers minor leaguer.
I am betting they kept him out due to the weather conditions.
Thank you Houston for drafting Jason Castro.
The MSM has been pretty quiet about Eric Hurley ...
but word has it …
- velo is back, like HS velo back, like zippety doo daa back. Of course the pro ball regimen should shave it down to E-Train norms – but ya never know.
- shoulder is fine, no worries, no troubles, no shoulder setbacks.
- left wrist – remember he had surgery in spring training? Well, a setback near the end of rehab has put him back to square one with a repeat surgery/hardcast situation – hence the delay in seeing him get assigned within the expected time frame.
- game-action ETA is now around a month away – assignment should follow soon after if all goes well.
- his spring stints throwing live BP have clowned extended batters. Luckily he’s still able to throw sides and long-toss and keep his arm strong since it’s his glove wrist that’s wonky. Surgery #2 shut him down again for a spell tho’ – cast comes off Monday.
- a successful return to a high level is a reasonable target, arm health certainly isn’t limiting expectations anyway. Soon as he can wear a glove again he’s back on an extended rehab sked that ends with an assignment. Late June/ early July? Booyah. Loves me some Eric Hurley.
That's amazingly good news.

hmm, wow
I had forgotten about him. If he’s back healthy, like really healthy, he’s another #3 type starter who will be just adding even more depth at the AAA/MLB level of pitching.

Bleir's trying to one-up Ross.
7:1 BG:FB though 4.
Pro baseball has always been a dream, so this is pretty freakin’ cool out here. -- Tim Steggall, undrafted Rangers minor leaguer.
And Bleier finishes with
10-4 GO/FO, 8H, 1R/ER, 2K, 1BB.
Here’s what I like about Bleier, 8 starts, 8 walks to go with a nearly 60% ground ball rate. He doesn’t strike out anyone hardly, though, so he’ll have to be completely awesome at not walking people and getting ground balls to reach his back end innings eater ceiling.
His walk rates each season. 2008, 2 BB/9; 2009, 1.3 BB/9; 2010, 1.35 BB/9, or if you prefer, between 3-4% of batters faced.

For some reason Beltre and Kirkman swapped days this weekend.
Anybody think that this means Kirkman might get called up as an emergency pen arm for tomorrow’s Rangers game?
after all those walks? No.
I’m thinking that they just wanted to give kirkman a day off or an extra day to do some side work related to his command issues.
Beltre is struggling with his command early too.

Salty’s toss-to-mound problems have improved dramatically the last few games – so much so that you don’t notice it – forget he even had troubles. Sez Salty’s D has been tremendous – blocking, throwing, handling the pitchers. Salty hit a long HR to right center earlier tonight also. All FWIW. Scheppers is in – just hit a guy in the helmet. Dude’s okay.
Yay
I’ve given up on the premise that he’ll be a fulltime catcher; he’s got too many injury issues. But as long as he’s capable, he’d be a hell of a shit-tons better than Mr. Misty May.

You act as if he's going to replace Treanor
I’m afraid Treanor’s playing for us short of a Jason Jennings-like shitfest that forces JD to cut the guy mid road trip.

The dude's
a subpar backup catcher. He’s got a .267 WOBA. I have to think the only eason he’s still playing is the lack of JD’s options.

Wash also credited Treanor with saving the season the other day
Treanor is the exact type of player you can’t have on Ron Washington roster, because he’s going to play waaaaay more than his talent or production dictates.
Like Jason Jennings last year. And like Jason Jennings, Treanor’s going to have to forcible insert his penis into several terrible losses for JD to cut him.
That, and Salty isn’t going to have Ron’s ‘trust’ when he gets back because he played a game when his back hurt.

Thompson - final line...
5 ip | 7 h | 3 r | 2 er | 3 bb | 7 k’s |
My amateur analysis — seems like he is only throwing his fastball + curveball right now, needs to throw his third pitch (change) more often, most of the balls hit were well hit.
"No nuts, no glory"
Wonder if they ordered him to only throw the two pitches tonight...

Teagarden...
LoneStarDugout Teagarden hits a 2-run homer to right-center on a 93 mph fastball over the plate from Pelzer. 2/2 so far tonight.
scottrlucas Upside: Homer hit straight into 17 MPH wind. Downside: It’s Double A.
"No nuts, no glory"
That's wild, but they're pretty different
Velazquez swinging k rate – 9.4%
Santana’s – 23.5%
among the things that separate them. I guess there’s still a little bit of hope for Santana. Very small.
