Goldstein on Davis, Erlin
Chris Davis, 1B/3B, Rangers (Triple-A Oklahoma)
You really have to give it to Davis. When one loses their big-league job, as well as the salary, the per diems, the nice hotels, and the chartered jets, the adjustment to being back in the minors is tough. Players deserve a week-long mulligan, maybe even longer, to get things going, but Davis hasn't missed a beat, going 14-for-31 with 12 RBI in his first seven games for the RedHawks, even filling in once at his old position of third base. There are still plenty of future Texas scenarios that involve a roster with both Davis and Justin Smoak on it, and to his credit, Davis is doing his best to turn those projections into reality.
Robbie Erlin, LHP, Rangers (Low-A Hickory)
A third-round pick last June out of a California high school, Erlin is one of those pitchers who does not really impress much until you see him pitch. He's more than a little on the small side, but the stuff that comes out of his hand is big, including a fastball with slightly above-average velocity and a curveball that's even better than that. Pitching long relief every four days at Hickory in order to manage his workload, Erlin struck out a season-high six on Saturday in three innings, giving him 17 in 15 1/3 innings overall while walking three and allowing just seven hits. His stock could go up dramatically with a move to the rotation and longer outings of the same dominance.

but will Davis ever be able to stay
this guy has so much power but just can’t put together enough othe rhits. maybe he needs to be traded, a change of scenery for him and something in return for the Rangers
I hope Davis can channel is inner Nellie Cruz...
in that it magically clicks in AAA one day, then comes back up to Arlington and sticks.

Dang it
KG posted his ten pack before my thing was published, so our almost identical takes on Davis make mine look kind of lame
Not my fault
They tell me when to schedule them to post.

As I read through his paragraph today
I kept thinking, well, he probably won’t mention third base, he won’t actually say a week or two, but nope, it was almost all of the same thoughts. Hopefully he’ll get back to putting them up after 10:30.

Erlin and Tullis
are going to move up the rankings this year. Evan Reed is quietly putting together a nice season so far, too. So far at least, the pitchers this year have been like the prospects in general were in magical 2008.

Davis needs to keep a framed picture of Nelson Cruz in his locker at OKC.
And I hope it gathers a lot of kiss marks as the season progresses.
Couple dudes with 80s under their names. I loved reading this.

Davis at 3b?
Is there any chance of Davis becoming primarily a thrid baseman? MY is on a slippery downward slope and doesnt seem to have the glove to make it over there. Not saying CD needs to be our third baseman this year, but maybe sometime in the near future?

Yeah
neither can Michael Young though.

He can play 3rd as well as most i have seen, and with Mike on the backside of
his career why not think about it for the end of this season and into next, is there any way to get rid of MY and that large contract? the only problem i have with CD is can he hit here, or is he a 4A player, could be he puts too much pressure on himself growing up a rangers fan and being a Texan playing for the rangers, i would be willing to bet if he were traded or released to another team he would play up to what we know he can do, just wish he can do it for the rangers.
Hopefully Davis isn't
just another AAAA guy.

No, no...
Much better if he is. Can you imagine JD having to hold a meeting to decide where to play Davis, like, if he starts hitting on the ML level?
Next thing we’ll be hoping for an injury for Davis to fill. And that’s just sick.
Chris Davis needs to strike his head on the AAAA ceiling, and that’s all I have to say.
