OT- Terrorists

Thought I would share this amazing experience with y'all, it still shocks me that I actually had this conversation...

I was in Houston(Clear Lake) for business back in February and I had to get across town for a dinner meeting, so the company car service picked me up at my hotel, and my driver was a older(50's) Greek man named "Amit". It was a 45 minute drive, so on the way there we asked him about famous people he had driven around in his time as a driver, and he said J-Lo, Ricky Martin, Tracy McGrady, and some others... But most interestingly, he said he once had a drug dealer have him drive from Houston to LA down I-10, stopping about every 1.5 hours to meet somebody. He got paid $4000 cash and he said it was the scariest thing... But, I asked him if that was the scariest thing he had ever done(sounds gay I know) and he said no, Ill tell you on the way back.

So about 4 hours later and 7 beers gone, we hopped back in and he started telling us the story of Amit, and the Twin Towers bomber. Back in 1991 or so, Amit moved to New York to start a life and live with his older brother, and he moved into a three bedroom apartment with another Muslim man, Ramzi Yousef. His brother had met him at his mosque a little while earlier. Amit said he was very very quiet, stayed inside all the time, and always talked about how bad of a place the USA was. Amit said, "I would ask, if you hate it so much, why are you here?"

Amit left and went back to Greece in early January of 1993. After the attack in February, Amit said he picked up the morning paper and saw that a possible name, linked to the Rider truck, Ramzi Yousef was being mentioned but that they had no picture. Amit, who had a picture of himself, his brother, and Ramzi, told his wife he was going to the American embassy to tell the Americans he knew this guy, and give them his picture. Amit did, they took the picture, and Amit didn't hear back for about 24 hours. Then, Amit got a call to go back to the embassy, where they told him that this was Ramzi, and thanked him cause they could broadcast the picture and help arrest him and the co conspirators, and offered him anything he wanted. Amit said it was between a million dollars, residency in a European friend of the US, or full citizenship in the US and a home in the city of his choice. Amit took the residency, immediately divorced his "horrible wife" and moved to Houston.

Amit said he recently got some calls asking if he knew anything about Khaled Shaikh Mohammed, but he never met him (Khaled was the uncle of Ramzi).

So, I met a hero, as he drove me across suburban Houston. Amit said some of his friends back in Greece were mad at him for turning in Ramzi, but he said that his faith told him murder was wrong and that it was his duty to make things right. He is still a practicing Muslim, drives for a car service in Houston, and has some crazy stories... Look him up if you are in Houston and need a ride, you wont forget it.
