Oswalt's too expensive and soon to be on the downturn, two months of Lee aren't worth what it'll take to get him.
Grienke is the only guy I’d consider selling the farm for. Haren would be interesting if he’s cheaper (in terms of prospects) than Grink, but if it takes similar packages to acquire either one, Grink’s the only one I’d consider.
"I think it's funny because everybody wants Ozzie Smith range," Young said. "I want people to show me a guy that has turbo range like that."
My thoughts exactly.

I think Lee might be perfect
If it takes a similar prospect load to get him as Seattle paid.
I have no idea what he’d realistically cost as every time he got traded, I expected a bigger cache of prospects going the other way. But considering cost, contract length, prospects and the draft picks you’d get…it’s really not the worst idea. He’s already shown he can be a No.1 in the playoffs.

Haren or Greinke...
but as always, only if the cost in prospects wasn’t too much.

I would love to get Haren...
but until the ownership clusterfuck gets taken care of, I don’t think we can afford him. Would love to have Lee but I don’t want the Rangers to give up a couple of prospects for 2+ months of Lee. Don’t want Oswalt and don’t think Greinke would be on the market. In the end, I don’t see the Rangers getting any of these guys this year.
"No nuts, no glory"
Greinke
but Perez, Feliz, and Holland cannot be involved. Maybe for Schep, Font, and Harrison?
That's why they call them business sox
One of Perez or Feliz is gonna be involved if you want Grink.
Moore may not understand defense stats, but if he trades Grienke it’ll probably be in an attempt to save hid job, I think.

Greinke's the only one
I would give up a truly top guy (Feliz, Holland, Perez, Schep, Smoak) for. Even then I’d be tenuous… this team’s built for longterm success and I don’t want to sacrifice that. I’d consider doing Holland+Font+Beltre but it would really pain me.

Until the ownership changes
I think all of this talk is kind of a waste of time.

Yeah...
but most of what we do around here is a waste of time, so why not.

Not half as big a waste as omegle or Jeffwoowoo.

Probably.
JD’s done some surprising stuff, though, especially on the front of getting a TORP. He was in on Santana and Greinke before their situations were resolved. He dumped Millwood to bring in Harden.
Since he’s on the record that SP is their main trade interest, I’m guessing he’s already busy working something up and trying to get into the market before everyone else.
And, I can’t see him bringing in a mid-rotation guy. I think they feel they’ve got that filled, and they think what they really need is a Game 1 starter.
So. It probably can’t happen because of economics, but I don’t think it is so unlikely it is dismissable.

Greinke
Do they consider Perez/Davis/Font/Namirez enough?
If we can give them Davis instead of Smoak, I think this team can part with a young starter as a headliner. Maybe it’s Scheppers, maybe it’s Perez. Who knows where Holland’s at now…
Go Strangers.
No.
They have Billy Butler.
They’d want talent that’s closer to the majors.
Maybe Perez/Scheppers/Borbon/Erlin

Dan Haren. What's his contract situation?
That’s who I want. I’d trade Martin Perez for him depending on his contract situation. They’d probably like Engel, as well, since the BP podcast mentioned there dearth of high ceiling position players in the system.

Sign me up.
I mean, I think that is affordable for this year, as well, once you prorate it. Will probably only be adding 3 million of that come the trade deadline.

Wow
I didn’t realize the Diamondbacks were doing so poorly. 11.5 back of the Padres, 10 back of 3rd place SF. -63 differential. Their 307 runs scored is 8th in the majors, but they also have the 3rd highest BABIP of any team at .321 (Astros second at .328!).
They’ve allowed 20 more runs than anybody else in baseball (hi Astros!) with 370.

I'm beginning to feel like my dream scenario would be:
Rangers trade for Lee — even though I’ve argued against it up to this point, I’m beginning to see how good it could be for the Rangers in the short and long term — with a package of Font or Beavan something interesting at both the Hickory and AZL level. If the M’s pick up Lee’s salary the rest of this season, then the something interesting at AZL can turn into Beltre instead or the Rangers go with Font AND Beavan rather than just Font or Beavan.
Lee departs this offseason for the Nationals, who want to make a big splash to go with Strasburg and Adam Dunn. This nets the Rangers a mid first round pick to go along with their regular pick in the 22-27 slot range. Plus, of course, the compensatory round pick.
Rangers get Purke back with the Nationals’ pick, who will be just a tick behind Font or maybe just a tick ahead on the development path. And, in next year’s draft, Lord knows what type of prospect goodness will slide into the late 1st round and compensatory round.

Purke
Is looking like a top 5 pick right now. But next year’s draft does look stronger in general than this one.

He very likely will be top 5 talent.
The question is whether he looks signable as a super 2.

I don't want to give the M's...
any of the prospects that it would take to get Lee, especially since the Rangers would only have him for half a season.

SI on Oswalt/Lee
Lee will have more suitors because of his much cheaper contract
