The Hamilton HR that wasn't prompts change

So I went to the game last night, and sat up on the club level instead of my usual RF seats. About the third inning, I noticed a change at the ballpark.

Part of the problem with the Josh Hamilton HR that was ruled a double back on May 19 was that the 2nd wall -- about four or five feet behind the main wall -- was painted dark green, the same color as the front wall. The umpire said something to the effect that he "saw the ball hit green, so it didn't go out."

However, the 2nd wall is now painted black. I went back through some highlights on texasrangers.com, and it appears that between May 20 and June 5, the Rangers went and painted the top of the 2nd wall black everywhere that it could be seen from the field. I am guessing that took place during the road trip from 5/24 to 6/3.

I took some pictures with my cell phone, but they aren't really clear enough... go to texasrangers.com and look at Hamilton HR highlights on May 19 and June 5 and you'll see the difference.

Kudos to the team for making a change to prevent this from happening in the future. And please note that I am taking full credit for it. ;-) see My Comment on the subject. (Note that something is broken and I can't link to that specific post, just the discussion. Trust me, I suggested they paint it differently about halfway down that thread.)

yeah

they mentioned this on the broadcast a few weeks back. Seems like relatively simple solution to a problem that shouldn’t have been.

Dang, I missed that

Did Josh say “as suggested by an LSB poster”?

Didn't give credit to LSB...

….but yeah, very pointedly said that it was re-painted to avoid errors like the Hamilton NotAHR.

I have always wondered why we dont have

the yellow line along the top of the wall…..but i guess it takes away from the look of the ballpark

with all the ads on the outfield walls....

I dont think we need to worry about detracting something from the “looks of the ballpark.”

I think about Major League 2 when I see our outfield walls compared to other teams.

It bothers me when people complain about ads on the outfield walls as if they're a new-fangled approach to maximizing revenue at the cost of aesthetics

The media talks about this from time to time as if today’s owners are ruining the game.

Look at some of the old ballparks. Crosley Field and the Baker Bowl are the first that spring to mind. There were some truly outlandish and obtrusive ads on those outfield walls.

Yes, but

there are more at the Rangers ballpark than most others.

Hopefully when Greenberg takes over

They will replace the Vote (insert Ranger here) sign with “F*ck Tom Hicks”

I like it that way

If we want to have true retro ballparks, we need lots of ads on the walls.

that's fine if you like it

I dont hate it….except the sign in right field advertising “DUMP.COM” or whatever the add is…RIDICULOUS :)

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of that ad in particular

personally I have no problem with the ads....

and I would have no problem with the yellow homerun line…..

Now if we had a hill in CF or Fowl poles…..then I might complain

Weird. Never heard of anyone that cared about that.

Anyways..everytime I see ‘The Dump’ ad I think of it being in front of the Rangers bullpen on Opening Day last year I believe it was
