Newberg Night lunch meetup
Newberg Night this Sunday - who is going? Hopefully the Rangers will be going for the sweep over the LAAngels.
Brian Thomas, BZA and I are planning to meet for lunch somewhere close to the park at about 1:30-1:40ish, time to eat and still get to the auditorium when it opens around 3 or so. We'd love to have more LSBers join us. Mariano's? Pappadeaux? Dickey's? Restaurant ideas please...
I'm trying to think of good questions to ask Daniels, but all I can think of so far are thing I know he can't or won't actually answer.

somebody has to ask him about
the team financial situation and if he is interested in a contract extension
Yeah, I can't imagine he is at liberty
to say anything we don’t already know about the team bankruptcy/sale.

Are they as interested in trying w/ Purke again as he is with them?
How long can they hold onto Levine?
Do they get ‘word of mouth’ about the likelihood of Type A and B’s being offered contracts by other teams?(hint, hint Molina)

Ah, bums me out.
I wish I was in town for Newberg Night.
Last year I expected to meet LSBers and it never really happened, although I got to meet AJM. Good idea, this lunch.

Ask him about Catcher development
who is in charge of that, and why is, what used to be considered a strength, now one of the biggest weaknesses of the franchise.

I dunno, that seems silly
Catchers are 2nd only to pitchers in attrition and flameout rate. Catchers also seem 2nd only to relief pitchers in their inconsistent production at the plate. Should we really be that shocked that 3 catchers didn’t pan out? Salty seems like the only real surprise to me, the yips ruining any chance he had of getting it going. Max still looks like a bat with little glove, Tea still looks like a glove with little bat.

Out of all the ones I can think to ask
most he won’t or can’t answer (regarding the org’s current catchers or free agent/trade targets). But I might ask what specific qualities they prize most in a catcher, or what ratio of defense/offense they prefer. Or I might ask if they have some proprietary data on game calling and other catcher defense things that aren’t publicly available that they use.

I was thinking along the same lines
I think i might ask him to elaborate on how they quantify/measure game calling, since they clearly put such a premium on it.
Obviously, much of it can’t be measured, but if nothing else, at least he could maybe share some anecdotes, both positive and negative, on how a catcher with superior or inferior pitch calling skills had a significant impact on individual games, since that is hard for the TV viewer to identify, and also on young pitcher maturation.
I also have a question about the Giants and Main, and one on scouting allocations. That primadonna punk Schiller will probably suck up all the bandwith, though.

That question
about quantifying game calling would be interesting. I know I haven’t seen much SABR stuff to support that, but the SABR stuff is always changing. 10 years ago SABR probably undervalued defense somewhat.

Ask him how many times he'd had a laugh at the M's for not knowing about Lueke's incident
If they could get the Buckle/Jackson signings done before the deadline so we don’t have to stay on here until midnight. Which… which we’ll be doing any, but, whatever.
How his working relationship with Nolan has changed with Nolan attempting to purchase the team.
Does he make fun of Tom Hicks to his face, or is he waiting until Hicks is officially out to do that?
(These are just, like suggestions. I don’t wanna go all Grant-Schiller-in-absence on this thing.)
(Also, it sucks that I have to work. FROWNY FACE!)

I'm going...
….but I’ll be coming with a rather large group of non LSBers….not sure what our plan is as of yet. I’m also coming with ExcelHeartsChoi, too. That dude rules.
Question I had for JD our last year of Vinny Padilla, but didn’t ever have the guts to actually ask:
“With Padilla contracting swine flu, is there any way the dude can get any weirder?”
Turns out, he could, as that winter he shoots himself in the leg with his own handgun.
Sounds like Padilla

Ask ExcelHeartsChoi if he still thinks Brian Sabean did a good job selling high on Liriano for me become you come with him.

Ask him to rate the draft the years he's been a part of it.
Like his own personal grade.
Now that Some of those guys have been traded, maybe he’ll give a candid response.
I wood be fine just asking abou the Main/Beaven draft
ask how much money was redirected from J2 signings to the big league club this year
wish I could meet up with you guys, but living in Arkansas now.
Hey Tom - It's over now, so do you know how - to pick up the pieces and go home?
Ask JD
How he feels about the media being too busy sucking Nolan’s dick to give him any credit for turning this franchise around.

Alright, it's going to be Mariano's
about 1:30 or so for any that care to show up.
