Cahill had a little something to do with that
as did the other A’s pitchers. Not a bad pitching staff.

We used to outscore teams,
Now we hold them to 2 or 3 runs and sometimes come up short. We are going to win more than we lose this way.
What are we at the park for except to win? I'd trip my mother. I'd help her up, brush her off, tell her I'm sorry. But mother don't make it to third. ~Leo Durocher
They've faced some good pitching though. I'm not too worried about it.

Some of it is good pitching like today
And then you also just have poor luck with runners in scoring position plus Kinsler and Vlad going through a bit of a slump. Its nothing I’m concerned about.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Cahill is a pretty good pitcher. He already has 10 wins. He was pretty good tonight. Colby looked pretty good until he thru the home run ball.

Kaylee: Sure. Yeah. I think so. Besides, if I mess up, it's not like you'll be able to yell at me.
I think you're wrong...
Look at the box, Colby gave up a bomb to Suzuki in the 6th.
If I had a gun to my head and had to pick one pitcher to pitch a game to save my life.... I'd pick 1999 Rick Helling.

It was Colbyashi
he hung a slider, but it’s not like he didn’t pitch a great game.

ugh... faulty memory
I thought that Kurt hit a 2 run homer in the 8th and cust singled in the runner in the 6th. whats really sad is that I watched the game on tv, but just forgot.

Thankfully, the team has been winning, and it is hopefully and probably just a SSS thing, but this has absolutely been a slump.

You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.

They really don't have the offense at all
Its still just Suzuki, a streaky Cust, and Barton and Cust is the only player who has an OPS over .800. And Cust a few weeks ago didn’t even have that.
The Rangers shouldn’t just write them off completely, but they still don’t have the offense to contend and their pitching just took another hit with Sheets being done.

The wOBAr's of the batting order they've got in this series would be 5.2 RPG in a neutral park.
There are a few things going on in there, but still, there’s some solid evidence suggesting their offense could easily be good going forward.
What does keeping an eye on them mean?
Like, they should watch them in the standings? They don’t? If they do, will that make them play better?

sorry, I guess it's the end of season 4.
Whatever the end of the last season they’ve done is very frustrating. It was good, I just hate waiting to find out what happened.
see...that's why I watch shows on DVD.

I got in the habit of downloading them as soon as they came out while I was deployed.
So now I keep up with them. I would wait to finish season 4 right before season 5 starts. I had actually forgotten how it ended until y’all brought it up.
I did that with a bunch of shows back when I was on the boat...
Then when I got to shore duty, I told myself I’d have to keep up with them.
Turned out, the only show I really kept up with was Lost.

I don't know if I could get out at 10 years.
I work in IT, so my job is relatively safe. My current contract will take me up to 9 years. I could get out and get a contracting job making 3-4 x’s as much as I do now, but I really like the idea of getting a pension and health care at 40.
My deal was that I'm was in the submarine field.
After 5 years on the sub, I knew that I could never do that again.
I tried to crossover to another field, but (ironically) I was too good at my job and the Navy wouldn’t let me.
Follow that up with some bullshit political crap that really screwed me over, and I became very jaded. I can put up with the same shit, making more money, in the civilian world. Plus, I’ll actually have time to go back to school.

Yeah...
It’s certainly tough. When I reupped the first time, it was with the plan of staying in for 20.
What’s sad is it’s happening a lot, especially in the submarine world. My chief is about to get out….at 17 years.

OT: The line at the top of the article about the Rangers not winning every game got me thinking..
about what their record would be if they won every game from here on out (120-42). I then realized how amazing it was that the Mariners won 116 games in 2001.
And yet failed to reach the WS.

Slump....need a lefty first baseman that can hit
Four of the five top Rangers batters are right handed hitters. Two of them are in a slump right now. That means even if Young, Hamilton and Cruz are hitting, you still can work around the slumping hitters. Chris Davis is so weak in batting that he hits behind the catchers spot that has collectively hit around .220 this year (if that). I consider Elvis and Borbon to be secondary batters, not RBI people but when they are hitting well, they can really help the team out.
My feeling is that all teams go in slumps, but with few effective left handed hitters on this club, that makes the club vulnerable right handed pitching, good starters like Cahill and good right handed relievers. My feeling is the Rangers need a left handed first baseman that can hit, and take up the slack when a couple of the right handed big five batters are slumping. I’m not sure Davis will ever be able to do that.
I also believe that right handed first basemen like Wiggington and Jorge Cantu won’t really help this team. But Adam Dunn, Lance Berkman (stronger left handed hitter even if he is a switch hitter), and Prince Fielder would be the kind of hitters to plug in the hole that currently exists.
With the bankruptcy situation going on right now, I’m not sure the Rangers are in the running to get any of those three players because they may not be able to afford their salary. And I suspect somebody will say, ‘Davis will do just fine because he’s a good defensive first baseman.’ That may be the reality and we may be relying on Cliff Lee and company to get us into the playoffs. That’s why I think the Rangers as they exist now, will not get us into the playoffs with their bats.
so you expect the rest of the lineup not playing first base
will continue the rest of the year as they have the last week?
by kevinkinsler on Jul 29, 2010 9:44 AM CDT up reply actions
I would love
To have Prince Fielder on our team. With that said, Cantu or Wiggington costs much less and would also improve this team and give the players one more little boost. I think I would be happy with either one of them at this point.
I don't want Wiggs
I want Cantu or Lee or Dunn.
