Sullivan: Rangers acquire Cristian Guzman (maybe)
T.R. Sullivan says that sources say the Rangers have acquired Cristian Guzman, who would fill in for Ian Kinsler, but the Rangers say nothing is official.

Maybe Arias himself.

You know what this team needs?
More utility infielders, MORE!!!!
um...
actually we need a 2B right now that doesn’t make me think “Fuck! Arias/Blanco is playing today”
That is possibly the best possible outcome.
An, “OK, that’s all right” instead of “aw, crap, again?”

Rangers FTW
Surely not.
I’d be fine with Arias and a spare, but somehow that seems too steep.

Bizarre
Runs are down in Minute Maid, but HR and 3B are well above average, hits, doubles and walks all slightly below average. Somehow all equates to well below for runs.
Runs: 0.897
HR: 1.134
H: 0.976
2B: 0.942
3B: 1.445 (!!)
BB: 0.958

Either way, Guzman sucks
He’ll hit an empty .280-290 and play good defense, but without any speed, power, or walks.
I really don’t see the need to acquire him- if Arias or Blanco can’t fill in for a couple weeks, why exactly are they on the roster?
I prefer someone with potential to Blanco/Arias, personally
Guzman is someone who I’d feel better about pinch-hitting for a pitcher, too
:)
This is my take....
Seems like a silly move unless they are REALLY worried about Kinsler

Just sucks that JD has to keep including an extra prospect or two in every deal because Hicks ran off with the family silver.

People are saying that it was a cricket
crawling behind Arias. If that big thing was a cricket, then there are obviously barrels of radioactive sludge in the ballpark that it got into. That thing was not crawling like a cricket. He was a friend of Arias – the roach tamer.
Happy birthday to Kenny. Happy birthday to you.

Wait, wait, wait.
So we’re getting Guzman (which is ok if the price isn’t too high), but we’re keeping Joaquin fucking Arias???
Guzman is Arias’ best-case scenario!

im not feeling good about this.

Don't be too hasty..
Even is neither of them are in the deal, one of them has to get dropped from the 25, right?
Right? Right?? Please tell me I’m right…. and that it’s Arias…

Good point
But it might be hard to pass up on the greatness of Edwina out there. I mean, he threw a no-hitter. He has to be good.
true... no hitters fly forever

Jeff Baker
would have been much cheaper and better. He fields well at 3rd and 2nd, can play first and outfield some, hits left handed pitching, would be around longer at a cheap price and the Cubs didnt need him.

Weren't you talking about Jeff f'ing Baker three months ago?
It was dumb then, too.
You need to go back wherever it was you were the last two months.

God help us if we gave up Kirkman for this guy.
I know we didn’t, or at least I hope I know we didn’t, but I like Kirkman, so it was my first thought.

Yes.
I feel like Kirkman could be better for this team right now than Feldman. That’s how much I like Kirkman.

that's an overreaction
on several fronts.
by elvis1isking on Jul 30, 2010 3:06 PM CDT up reply actions
What fronts exactly?
You don’t think Kirkman could come up and suck as bad as Feldman has this year? Sure he’d be inconsistent as hell, but at least he wouldn’t be a big ball of consistent suck.

first of all, I don't think JD is trading Kirkman
And no, I don’t think Kirkman would be better for the team than Feldman this season. Quite possibly in the long run, but not for this season.

hey, we’ve already traded two 1st round pitchers… remember when we were never gonna trade a 1st round pitcher ever again? haha

I say Kiker and Castillo
or Bleier

dang, i really hope its not any of the guys currently on the HIckory staff
besides NeRam, I could see that… that’d be crazy, NeRam, Main, Beaven all traded to acquire three different ML players while Julio and Hunter are starting for us, that’s a pretty huge impact draft already.
