But...
are you surprised? Seems like this thing will never end.

No, not so much.
I just wanted to be the first all-caps freakout.

meh
this doesn’t really change anything then does it? The August 4th deadline favored GnR from what we could tell anyway.

Lynn does hate the Rangers...

I have a feeling
Cuban is going to come out owning this team. And I’m ok with that.
my better is better than your better.

Cuban
I’ve yet to really see a good reason to want him to buy the team other than people expecting him to spend like the angels and yankees which i dont think he will
"I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it." - Mitch Hedberg
a while back people were expecting that he'd spend money
and it was pointed out that he hasn’t exactly been a big free spender with the mavs of recent years
"I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it." - Mitch Hedberg
NBA free agency is so much different than MLB
Cuban has shown hes willing to take on salary if needed. Translating that to MLB and he would be fine taking on Oswalt and his salary or Fielder and his salary for next year.
Expecting him to spend 80-90 million is reasonable
Expecting him to keep funding the draft and J2 signings is reasonable. No one has said that they expect him to spend Yankee money. The only people saying that are the people like you telling us that we expect him to spend Yankee money. That’s creating a strawman so you have something to argue.
We dont know anything about what cuban might or might not do
and it HAS been brought up before people thinking he’ll come in and be some free spender, I’m not simply makings shit up to argue I hate internet arguing because its so pointless.
"I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it." - Mitch Hedberg
We know more about what he might or might not do
than we do about Greenberg/Ryan. I’m in favor of Greenberg/Ryan winning so our front office stays in tact, but we have no clue how they will spend. Cuban atleast has a track record, albeit in another sport of being willing to take on contracts if he believes it gives his team a chance to win. He’s not as much of a free spender now as when he first bought the Mavs. He seems to be more calculated now.
What's the purpose of the CRO
The judge has seemingly turned down everything the dude has proposed?

He is the bizarro judge
everything is opposite for him

Skwisgaar: Statisticallies or not, but, uh, just don'ts likes this guy.
I think the judge just wants a bulletproof decision
No judge likes being overturned. Hell, it makes some timid to make hard decisions. I’ve seen judges reversed enough it seems they’re to grant a summary judgment – they would just prefer to let a jury decide things (I could be subjective on this).
"You promised me, Eckstein, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I noticed that during the most trying periods of my life, there have only been one set of prints in the sand. Why, when I have needed you most, have you not been there for me?" David Eckstein replied, "Because my little legs had gotten tired, and you were carrying me." And I looked down and saw that I was still carrying David Eckstein.
Then he grounded out weakly to second.

Does anyone else think this will end up being the least messy way for this to all pan out? I mean, if GnR’s plan had gone through there would have been lawsuits, and appeals, right? As it is, isn’t the deck still stacked for GnR, if only slightly?

I hate to tell you,
but things got messy a long freaking time ago.

Well obviously things got messy a long time ago
the point is I think this may keep things from getting messier, which would be nice

Yeah...
Now Cuban’s intentions are known and he’s a little pissed off. I’d be surprised if he doesn’t own the Rangers at this point.

I agree he will probably have the highest bid.
But will he get MLB approval. That is the real question.
I might be way off
but wouldn’t MLB be clamoring just to approve anyone at this point? Get this mess over with?

I believe MLB approval is a condition for even being allowed to bid
or at least that’s how it was supposed to be…

Yeah
I believe Cuban has already been vetted, per Bud.

Misread your post... yeah
Need MLB approval to bid, need owner approval once you have an agreement to own.
Replace Jim Knox
He was approved to bid on Cubs, had the highest bid but was rejected. He is not getting in this club (MLB).

Not exactly.
He was rejected because his financing was solid. It never got to the point of approving him personally.

Who comes out of this thing alive?
What do you think are the chances of each group owning the Rangers when all is said and done?
GnR – 35%
Cuban – 55%
Crane – 10%
That’s my guess… although I want GnR to get this and quick!
However it turns out I hope that justice is done
and Hicks gets boned on his ridiculous side deals, whoever wins the bid.

trophy
I am to the point that I don’t care who owns the team I just don’t want Hicks to touch the damn World Series Trophy.
Speaking of trophies,
Hicks head should be hanging on a wall somewhere after all this(with his nuts stuffed in his mouth).

So this new bid by GnR would be the stalking horse correct?
And now new bids have to exceed this by 15 million? So basically GnR just told Crane and Cuban they have to up their offers out of the gate.
I don't think so
Their bid was contingent on the auction being cancelled
So, AJM
as the revised bid structured by Snyder with Greenberg/Ryan ostensibly addressed the original lender issues and filled in the reported $30 million gap the deal was hung up over, that they would continue to protest, and that the judge would hold firm on auction, suggests that the bankruptcy changed the endgame. Is that a logical take?

would it not be funny....
If Cuban bought the Rangers and got a ring from them before the Mavs….
heck if he wins the auction…does he get a ring if this things gets crazy in the postseason?

One question I have is whether the auction rules have changed
They were originally somewhat contingent on the Asset Purchase Agreement. Now that Greenberg’s offer has changed I presume the auction rules change as well.
I say “somewhat” contingent on the APA because other bidders can, I believe, redline that agreement with the changes they want.
If anyone else bids at the required $15MM increase over GnR’s bid I doubt GnR exceeds that (assuming the auction rules still apply). It took this long to get another $40MM in cash and $17MM isn’t chump change.

maybe not officially
but the other bidder now know what GnR will go up to. Hopefully, Greenberg still has a wildcard left to play.

I think
Cuban does end up owning the team, but I say no way MLB takes 3 months to approve him. They want this shit over with just as badly as we do. I also tend to think they don’t want to have to go through this whole process of lending us money throughout the offseason.
I wish the auction would be broadcasted live
I think we’ll all be wearing out our F5 keys that day.
