New Jeff Wilson mailbag up
Jeff Wilson has a new mailbag up...
There's talk about how a potential Cuban ownership, moving Ian Kinsler around in the lineup, and why do stat geeks focus on stats like FLIP and BATTY when talking about Michael Young, rather than respecting his leadership and how much he's meant to the team the last ten years?
Check it out...

Stats and Young
It might not be a good idea to compare Young to a guy with a career line of .325/.424/.557/.981 in 14 big league seasons.

I wasn't the one that told you
but it’s not redundant to point something out that is.
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
sure Young may have a "chance" at 3000 hits
if that chance is around 5% (if that). It’s very unlikely that he reaches that mark.
btw…Young doesn’t get thrown out on the bases that much, but is he the most cautious base runner we have. he seems to be a base short from where he needs to be all the time. He’s not terribly slow, but what’s up with his base running. Don’t get me wrong, I love him as our 2 hitter. He’s perfect for that spot, but damn.

I couldn't give a rats taint about
MY’s legacy with the Rangers. Winning a WS comes first and if that means MY get demoted to bat boy then so be it.
Addendum to caption for Face-Pic above
“Apparently, Michael Young has a low FLIP and a very low BATTY, as well as a low CUP. He’s seen here making an adjustment.”
Actually, I think that's his shout out to
the stat-geeks at LSB.

What a horrible question and what a horrible, horrible response.
Not even Jeter is immune to the stats lovers. His range, for instance, is an easy target. But would the Yankees be a better team without Jeter? The stats can be manipulated to show that they would be, but there would be an enormous hole in the clubhouse that no stat can possibly explain. The Rangers would also take a giant hit if Young weren’t around.
What a dumbass.
Yeah, there are a few players who would make the Yankees better if they traded Jeter for them. Like Albert Pujols. But no one makes the argument that the Yankees would be better if they just got rid of Jeter, just like no one makes that argument with Young.
Start understanding what the fuck people are saying before dismissing what they’re saying.
Footnote
I like Wilson’s reporting and don’t really think he’s a dumbass. But that was a dumbassy response.
What if MY played his career in New York?
And put up the same year over year numbers as he has in Texas? Where would the Yanks put him on the all time Yankee list?
He wouldn't make
the all time yankee list.

Mike Young
Does he have bad reaction time or what? Last night was the first time in a long time I’ve seen him leave his feet for a ball, and this one wasn’t well hit. It really looked more like he fell down beside the ball.
My step-dad loved Raffy Palmeiro but always complained that “he was afraid his uniform would get dirty”. Is it that Young can’t or doesn’t dive for balls? He throws ok. He can go after a ball hit weakly in front of him. He can snag a hot liner. There’s just no lateral ability at all.
