So, another fanpost that should be a fanshot, but I'm really interested in everyone's opinion, and a better way than a poll to summarize the board's opinion just can't be found.

My opinion is that this is an unwise move. Not to the extent of the other unwise moves that JD made (Eaton and McCarthy). Unwise in the sense that if Smoak is the caliber of player you had to lose, then I was hoping he would bring back a player who could help for more than one playoff run (Mark Lowe is too marginal to count as such a player). I do understand that recent precedent is a Smoak-like prospect (actually one a step below Smoak's level of development) is needed for an Ace, but, still, the Rangers only get the Ace for one playoff run, and they won't necessarily be able to upgrade their offense through FA this offseason, since we have no clue what ownership of the Rangers will look like then.

But, what do I know. I'm an over-analytical fan, and when the Rangers wrap up the West in August, I will cheer like the rest of the great Rangers' fans, and I will let next year take care of itself when it gets here.
