College football sucks
my team’s not worth following, so F the sport.

Here's the thing
The only argument supporting that is the passion inherent to it. So if you’re really, really into a team, I suppose it can be better than pro ball. But the level of competition doesn’t come close. And that’s the overwhelming deciding factor for me.

I am overwhelmingly more into college football than the NFL. NFL is ok.

Actually...
the best argument for it is that it’s a matter of personal opinion.
I feel a closer bond to the Utes than I do to the Raiders because that’s where I went to school. I feel like I am a Ute. I will never feel like I’m a Raider or even a Ranger. My pure love for baseball overrides even my Utedom though.
"The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance."-Socrates
I agree. I mean, we all like to think we can play ball somewhat (most of us do)...
There’s always those douches on here saying “Oh, well I played college ball and could have gone to the minors.” Watching college ball, you can put yourself in their shoes. You go to the same classes as they do, you have the same troubles, they aren’t getting paid, etc. You also know that 95% of the guys on the field there will not be making pro ball their career and will probably turn into a working Joe just like yourself.
I agree that the level of play is spectacular to watch in the pros, but the hustle, story lines, and just sheer amazing-ness of a 5’ 7 guy making an amazing play at an amazing time against an amazing player is just, well, amazing.]
I love everything about college sports.

The NFL isn't immune to changes in style or fads,
but it really is, moreso than any other league, a copycat league.
The same thing happens on a smaller scale in college — look at the Big XII these days — but no single style takes over everybody.
There’s no magic bullet against a particular offense or defense other than the stuff that works against all of them — speed, strength, and execution — but I find the chess matches over the course of a season a lot more interesting in college where you see a lot more variations in schemes.
Gimmicks and trick plays are a lot more common as well, but that’s just a factor of having a lot more big underdogs due to the talent distribution and a lot of low-risk/high-reward situations that encourage the underdogs to go for it. Although I do get a kick out of how much the trick plays have colored Boise’s rep — they actually play a fairly straight-up traditional style of football, compared to the common perception.
I love college football
But the best parts of it seem to be things that are often peripheral to the game itself. While there are some transcendent talents, I’d rather watch the NFL. It’s just…better.

It's like basketball (except I'm the reverse on that one).
The NBA has the better product, but a lot of people prefer the styles of play and variation of college ball. Personally, I find a lot of the things that are more common in the college game to be dreadfully boring.
The amount of coaches willing to take a risk by doing things differently shrinks dramatically as you shrink the number of coaches.
So
I assume this subject is why the morning thread has 800+ posts?

Probably because TCU was his only recorded offer according to Rivals.

The Utah game scares me, even more than the Oregon St. game. It’s in Utah, it’s probably going to cold, and the team will be more experienced. Most TCU people rooted for you guys against Bama, btw.
I’m more excited about the BYU-Utah game myself. Oh man, with the way that game ended last year, there’s going to be some pissed off mormons.

The 2008 loss at Utah was an absolute stomach punch game.
One of us was going to the BCS that season and TCU just failed to knock Utah out of the game several times and Utah pulled off that fantastic final drive.
On the other hand, last year’s game was an absolute blast, between GameDay being on campus and the Carder absolutely rocking from an hour before gametime until the end.
That’s what disappointed me most about Utah leaving the conference, because Utah/TCU was turning into a great rivalry (and not that I can fault Utah for leaving, although I thought if they stayed the MWC was a lock for a BCS autobid)

It depends how they split up the conference
but it’s going to be rough sledding for a while.
You’re going to need a lot more quality depth to survive a tough conference plus you’re going to get jobbed by officials when you play the bigger, more prestigous schools. It’s a good crossroads moment…Texas Tech was much better off in the Big 12 than we were in the SWC.

JD: Eddie Guardado.
by GhettoBear04 on Aug 17, 2010 4:16 PM CDT up reply actions
Sure.
Purdue (W)
Michigan (W)
@ Michigan St. (L)
Stanford (W)
@ Boston College (W)
Pitt (L)
Western Michigan (W)
Navy (W)
Tulsa (W)
Utah (L)
Army (W)
@ USC (W)
Stanford and USC are the most loseable games on the schedule that I’ve marked as W’s.
There's only 3 road games?
9 wins seems high to me. Especially first season for a new coach…7-8 seems more reasonable, no?

I think the oddsmakers have them as an 8-win team, but I like to be mildly optimistic, particularly with the number of starters we return on defense.
Army and Navy are neutral site contests which, for Notre Dame, means they’re basically home games. The days of murderous scheduling are largely a thing of the past.

I don’t get it. They better get some serious money from ESPN or somebody for their games. I doubt the BCS will give them a opportunity like ND has.
And how is playing 5 or 6 WAC teams each year going to improve the national perception that that BYU/Utah/TCU/Boise St. don’t play anybody? I guess they could schedule other tough games but what schools from power conferences are going to want to schedule a 1 and 1 with BYU?

That deal is a joke and everyone knows it.
LOL, are they insane?
Lots of examples they could look at to see that being an independent and a big-time football school only works for one program: Notre Dame.
I know this all too well (well, I wasn’t alive back then, but I’ve read about it).
