Who Should the Rangers Keep?

Just a question for discussion.   Out of all the following acquired prior to the deadline, who should the Rangers keep? How about those acquired prior to the season?

Cliff Lee is a gimme, if he'll sign.   But what about Jorge Cantu? Will he come back as a back up to Moreland? Or will Chris Davis do the job?

Guzman will be gone.  He shouldn't have been here in the first place.  But do they have a suitable back up for Ian Kinsler?  Arias blew it trying to force the out at second last night instead of going to first.  Blanco is a good utility but not for an extended period of time.

Rich Harden better be gone.  Can Feldman rebound?  Both were shopped around near the deadline.  Vladimir Guerrero is also a gimme. They do have an option so that probably will be exercised.

What about the costs?  How much will it cost to keep Lee and still extend Josh Hamilton?  Most agree around $20 mil for Lee.  I'm thinking around $10 mil for Josh. Come arbitration time, Josh might command Ryan Howard money ($13 mil when he went through arbitration with the Phils)  Lee and Hamilton alone can jump payroll by nearly $30 mil.

What do you guys think?

Also,

Ah, right

The guy they got that ended up sucking they shouldn’t have gotten, and they should have gotten someone else, who that someone else would be, you don’t know, just so long as it wasn’t the guy with the solid track record with a manageable prospect cost who ended up sucking.

The pecan bourbon is pretty easy

Just add a shot of bourbon to the mix with the karo syrup — I’m cheap so I’ll use the bourbon to get the last bit of syrup out of the bottle. Sometimes I cut the vanilla called for by the standard recipe in half, but the key is getting the dry ingredients and eggs thoroughly mixed in with the nuts and syrup so that it sets.

Oh, and I forgot a peach mascarpone pie that the wife serves with a balsamic vinegar reduction as sauce. That’s up there for me as well, though she has gone off sweets and thinks I should too.

Do you make the strawberry-rhubarb-jalapeno yourself?

I was thinking about mocking him with my own ridiculous fanpost: "How to Make the Rangers a Better Team"

First, they have pretty good pitching to begin with, but if they got even better pitching (Tim Lincecum or whatever), then they’d have even better pitching. And with better pitching they wouldn’t have to score as many runs to win games.

And they have a pretty good offense, but if they got even better hitters they would score more runs, and they wouldn’t have to worry so much about the other team scoring more and they will still win more games.

BUT

If they got better pitching and better hitting they would win A LOT of games.

What do you think?

See, for example, Monday’s morning thread and The Great Chili Discussion of 2010.

It’s part of the charm and schtick of LSB, whereas some other SBN blogs like Lookout Landing abhor off topic discussion. I just think that’s because they don’t know enough about any other topic to host a discussion on it.

I'm behind this policy.

Don't do a poll

Totally do a long post based on who the most compatible gay partners here are. Totally.

Do Garoon and Robbie whisper sweet stats into each other’s ear? Do Firebat and Tex keep scrapbooks of prospects’ in a frame-by-frame of their swing? Do Ben and Gardner argue about the value of college degrees while spooning?

THIS is what you need to spend your time and effort on.

This sounds amazing

Don’t forget dirkatron and The Newberg. We all know they secretly love each other.

I just hope they can keep Rangers' Captain around.

I love to watch that horse walk around the ballpark.

I also hope they are able to keep the dot races and kiss cam.

Hey, you can make fun of the horse

But you leave the fucking dot race out of it. Chuck Morgan is a genius!

I think a reply failure was actually an improvement in this thread's quality

Democratic Peoples Republic of the Congo

Bosnia-Herzegovina

Despite that, I forgot half of South America.

by Josh Lile on Aug 22, 2010 9:09 AM CDT up reply actions

There's actually two seperate countries...

Democratic Republic of the Congo and just west of that is the Reppublic of the Congo. Kinda odd.

I'd keep

the clubhouse guys.

I hear they keep Tommy Hunter stacked in Ribs and bacon, and those are his supplements of choice.

I’m not sure it’s the best, but I have to admit I spent a little too much time picking it out. I’m glad you approve, “TxStCa”

I'd think it should be pretty obvious, based on his comment above.

It’s Newberg.

Lee, Blanco, Maybe Vlad

Of all the backups I think Blanco may be the best one. Vlad needs to come out of his slump for me to want to keep him around. But then I think, well what if Oakland signs him, and he gets to hit against the Rangers, and I question whether the Rangers can afford to have him playing against them.

I know Guzman can play better than he has. He is a better defensive middle infielder than the rest of the backups. He should be able to hit better. But if he doesn’t indicate he can hit better, than I think you let him go. Let Feldman and Holland battle it out for the fifth starting position.
