the Federal government has a SUPER high conviction rate
so that would suggest that they only go to bat when they know they can win. I’m sure one of the lawyerly folks here can provide actual facts, but it’s something in the mid 90% range (if I remember correctly). They do an excellent job of investigation and prosecution, but they won’t take one all the way if it’s not a winner.

still not sure why it being from half a decade ago matters. I can live with you not liking it. Saying that it being old is why it’s not a good song makes you sound like an 8 year old girl whose dad is blaring the eagles in the car.

Perhaps the most irritating part of driving in the city is sharing the road with traffic. Plan for traffic jams and delays around rush hour, but also anticipate that congestion will occur for other, unexpected reasons. If you find yourself in heavy traffic demonstrate patience and courtesy. Becoming angry or aggressive will not get you to your destination any sooner.

Per Rage Against the Machine and other music
from the 90s….when I started having chillun, music became less important / i became less knowledgeable about what was current but you will occasionally hear morsels.
I used to know old music like I knew my baseball cards …but you get older and you can lose your fastball.
I’m very careful not to shit on what younger people listen to today but i was there for both Nirvana & Led Zeppelin and I thought they were both good with moments of greatness but ultimately overrated….Nirvana moreso than Zep, Cobain’s problems, fucked up wife and death added to the legend. Much more style than actual substance.

It's referred pain or whatever it's called.
Liver biopsy => really annoying pain in upper right shoulder.
That seems weird
I mean, I know about referred pain, but that seems oddly specific.
"I’ve been a Rangers fan all my life and I can tell you there’s been plenty of fucking crying in baseball…" - WhipSmart, 6.3.08
The first time it happened was when I had my gallbladder out, and they did a liver biopsy at the same time.
I just assumed it was from the more invasive, multiple-incisions part of the procedure. Then I had a standalone liver biopsy; same thing.
Probably the worst part of the whole thing, pain-wise, since it lasted a lot longer than the tenth of a second stab.
I had laparoscopic abdominal surgery in January
and my shoulders hurt, but it was from whatever they used to puff up my abdomen so they could see.
"I’ve been a Rangers fan all my life and I can tell you there’s been plenty of fucking crying in baseball…" - WhipSmart, 6.3.08
Oh, yeah, forgot about the puffing stuff.
That’s what I assumed was hurting my shoulder as well, but then I had identical pain on just the biopsy.
So annoying. Felt like something that would go away if I could just roll my shoulder around right, but it stuck around no matter what I did.

I mean, it's not like Josey's the only one who leveled criticism at the piece:
Mark Carlson wrote this gem:
In reading many of the comments here, it looks like some are impressed by anything with three paragraphs or more. Frankly, the whole idea of entertaining whether chemistry can actually be quantified seems silly to me. How do you build a model that determines whether Marlon Byrd radiates more chemistry than Derek Jeter does? Hats off to Josh for crafting a lengty article without really saying much that anyone didn’t already know.
Setting aside debate on the merits of Mark’s argument here, at least there’s some constructive criticism. It ignores what I wrote about that exact point, granted, but it’s an attempt to build up a critical take.
The Outlaw has yet to muster a single one. He just takes his shots and runs away.
Anyhow, I appreciated the folks who stopped by and engaged. The piece got some nice feedback.

I actually a gree with Mark: you write something long, everyone is going to tell you it's great writing online.
But yours was good and long, not merely long parading as good.
Thanks.
The length was definitely something I considered before sending it off to Joey. I felt that the quotes embedded in the piece were important to what I was trying to argue. I even thought briefly about restructuring it into two parts, but then I felt like I was selling my readers short. Why wouldn’t they be able to make it through?
I should probably not spend too much time in this thread.
Don’t want to say anything I might regret about our offense, Boggs’ defense, or the heaping pile of shit this team looks like right now.

DanWolken The C-USA/MWC merger seems far-fetched on the surface, but I’ve had two conversations that lend legitimacy to the possibility.

There are several upcoming shows I want to hit.
I will probably get to go see The Sounds and I have tickets to Rage Against the Machine and Queens of the Stone Age in October, but, like Regina Spektor sold out even at prices that kind of hurt, so I’m hoping she adds another date.
I've lived such a sheltered life.
I have seen Garth Brooks (shut up, it was in high school), Dave Matthews Band, Peter Murphy (love!) and BB King.
That’s it. I had tickets to both Wintersleep and Airborne Toxic Event last year and didn’t make it to either show.

Eh.
I have a weakness for bad pop songs. I loved “Baby One More Time” to death, but that may be because I first heard it at the drag show at the Village Station.
I like “Hey Ya” but I don’t necessarily qualify it as “good”.
I stick to XM 44 almost exclusively.

It is for me.
But I can’t stand FM radio – the commercials drive me crazy, and I never could find a station that played mostly stuff I like. The Edge was it, but then in the early 90s they really started to suck.

XM is absolutely worth the money for the baseball

When Norm sucks dick (like he did this morning, SeaBass) and Ben/Skin are scuffling I can go to Stern or the MLB Network.
And then there’s XM 45.

On my way to the National Championship game in ‘97 b/w Florida-FSU, I stopped at a casino in Biloxi for New Year’s Eve(I was coming from Florida). Anyways, unbeknownst to me, BJ was playing that nite. Won about $500 at the roulette wheel and tapped my toes to ‘Hey won’t you play, another somebody done somebody wrong song’.
Good times. Remind me to direct Ryin to this post, he’ll love it.

it’s weird. A lot of my high school friends still live in the area, and almost ALL of them that still live there are SUPER conservative. A lot of my husband’s family is also super conservative.
But a lot of the friends I’ve made since then are not.
After a while I just stopped posting status updates altogether. I couldn’t say anything that had to do with an actual opinion without a huge shitstorm, and I got tired of only being able to post stuff like, “OMG I’m wearing the cutest shoes today”.
I also don’t comment on anyone else’s political stuff for that reason.

The facts are pretty clearly for allowing it. The issue seems to be the initial gut reaction that some people can’t move past. And for a significant portion of that group, it seems they don’t see a difference between Islam and terrorism. I feel like if you actually say/type it, you realize how wrong* it sounds to stop something that’s perfectly legal from happening because of latent, improperly biased, fears.

I thought you handled it very well.
As overused as the “slippery slope” argument is, this is a pretty clear example. Saying Clemens or Raffy or Sosa or anyone else should be investigated by Congress and prosecuted simply for setting a bad example is a terrible, terrible argument.
There are almost limitless other things you could throw under that same umbrella.
Of course, lying to Congress is a completely different matter, but that didn’t seem to be the issue with that guy.

Yeah, I'm not exactly a proponent of it
But I’m assuming that’s the approach. There’s so much money out there and the BCS, before the smaller conference adjustment, could be construed as a good ole boys network that was denying fair competition or some such…seeing as how these are collections of institutions that get state/federal money, I understand how Congress feels like they could/should get involved.
I’d rather they just pulled their heads out of their asses and gave us a playoffs though.

Not sure how up on late 70s Rangers history you are...
Eddie Stanky took over as the Rangers manager in ’77…it was damned good club that was floundering in late June.
The Rangers won Stanky’s first game (wanna say 10-7, Mike Marshall got the save) but after the game, Dock supposedly walked on the bus with curlers on, a big tumbler of drink in one hand and then loudly asked…“Why be no (N-word) on the left side of the infield”?
Stanky, a native from not-so-progressive Alabama and not all that accustomed to the the new era of players, calmly resigned the next day.
Look it up.

Well, if you want to go hard-core up front,
you could find a bottle of Laphroaig 10-year old for cheaper. In fact, in some spots, it’d be within $5-10 of Woodford.
It’s an Islay, though very very heavy on the peat and iodine. If you discover you love this type of Scotch, you’ll love this Scotch but it’s a risk.
Otherwise, you could ease in with the Macallan 12-year old, which is closer to $40. Or, maybe, a bottle of 10-year old Ardbeg; it’s underrated, I think.

Gentleman Jack is a lot better than Jack because of it’s smoothness. But there’s a distinct nutty flavor at the end that I don’t care for. I was so surprised by it the first time I had it that I made my wife try it. She could sort of tell at first, but definitely tell in comparison to Woodford. Woodford is sooo smooth and blends the flavor the barrel with a bit, but not too much, of a sweeter honey flavor. The color on both is fantastic.

I agree with that.
Weird afterflavor on Gentleman Jack. Woodford is good. I don’t drink anymore (well, usually) and I miss my whiskey.

Bolla Valpolicella.

Valpolicella's
Just discovered them last winter. Zenato has a very good one for ~$16, but I think I still prefer Masi’s that’s ~$14.

I really like BV from Napa Valley but they can't ship to Tejas any
more.
I loved Sterling’s set-up in Napa but the wine isn’t as good as the set-up.
I much enjoyed the Moet Chandon set-up at Napa.
Best trip I ever took my wife on and I got to close with the beauty of San Francisco.

Sterling's stuff is worth it on sale.
They had it on sale the last time we were out there and we got some good stuff.
Right now, there’s no reason to expect to pay the same for your favorite wines as you did 3 years ago. The wine industry is cutting prices all over the place.

I would like to see what the stats are for teams that beat the best starting pitchers
i’m sure that the Rays, Yankees and Twins are 3 of the better teams, i have a feeling that the rangers are not good at it, especially with the record they have against teams with winning records, if the rangers get lucky and do make it to the playoffs they won’t last long unless they change the poor numbers against great pitching. not sure where you would find stats like that.
