Around SBN: Keith Hernandez Reacts To Gary Carter's Passing

Sunday a.m. Rangers stuff

Jeff Wilson's game story says that, despite the Rangers' 3-6 record in games Cliff Lee has started, his teammates believe in Lee and know that he's done his job in most of those games.

The game story on the Ranger website notes that this is the first time Lee has ever given up four homers in one start.

Richard Durrett has a compilation of some Cliff Lee numbers.

Evan Grant says that the team's lack of positional player depth has been a big problem this year.

The S-T has a Q&A with Jon Daniels on a variety of issues, including the team's injuries and why Rich Harden is getting another shot in the rotation.

The Rangers website notes feature several items, including an update on Scott Feldman, who is going to have an MRI on Monday, and praise from Ron Washington for Mitch Moreland.

As far as Feldman goes, I suspect he'll be put on the d.l. on Monday, and Michael Kirkman will end up staying up.

Wilson's notes talk about Elvis Andrus's recent offensive surge, and Ian Kinsler feeling good about his groin.

What can I say, Cliff has thrown a couple of stinkers

but that stuff happens. Sure, the last three starts have been a little bothersome, but that SO/BB rate through that still looks tasty. As for the record, I’d think they all even up by the end. Hopefully.

Also, is Kirkman starting next week or what?

Remember to retire Fin's number, Mark.

Bull$hit ahead. Please watch your step.

We’d like to see Rich seize the opportunity. He’s obviously capable. He’s shown that at times. I think it’s time for production. I don’t think anyone is more frustrated than he is. He’s frustrated now.

I don’t think Derek Holland threw the ball poorly the other day. But we feel like we made the investment in Rich and he’s shown that he’s capable in spurts. We’ll give him a chance to capitalize on that.

I agree that Holland didn't throw the ball that poorly

Perhaps poor planning for hitters.

Flexor tendon...

How does that rate in the pantheon of arm injuries?

I always thought torn rotator cuff, torn labrum were the worst for pitchers, Tommy John isn’t that bad (relatively) since there’s a pretty good chance nowadays of returning from it with only the downtime being a drawback…

And I’m wondering if he doesn’t throw a second fastball (2 seamer, sinker, cutter?) as his fastball velocity ranged from 88 to 94. However, the more likely explanation is that his velocity wasn’t 100% for the first few batters.

Because if there's one thing JD has always done

Its try to justify a signing…

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Dear Zeus...

please don’t let Kevin Millwood beat the Rangers today.

Amen.

Too Comfortable

The O’s looked too comfortable at the plate yesterday. Maybe Cliff needs to take a lesson from Nolan and buzz a few towers every once in awhile to keep the hitters on their toes…

I wouldn't mind seeing that...he's got such great control he can afford to waste a pitch high and tight.

Luke Scott looked really comfortable when he flipped the bat...

before he started his home run trott. I’m not sure Wash or Maddux like to buzz hitters, but I know the team president probably doesn’t mind it.

I think very few we comfortable

at the plate vs Nolan. Mostly due to his wildness but also because he wasn’t afraid to come inside.
