I am Surprised by the A's Fan Pessimism in these Comments.
Maybe it's just me, but the A's scare the crap out of me in 2011. They scared me going in to this season with that pitching staff and it has only served to scare me more. The offense, while very weak, is scrappy, and with 2 quality bats added to it could be very dangerous. Why the crazy talk about rebuilding? Because they can't add a F.A. bat? They have the pitching depth to add a bat in a trade. Some dumb gm will be willing to over-pay for a Dallas Braden and offer them something.
Just find it odd they are in Sky is Falling mode based on some podcast that Billy Beane gave.
Am I over-rating the A's and giving them too much respect ? What do you guy think? It just seems to me that we could (a) win the WS this year, (b) be better in 2011 and (c) finish third in the West because of (1) the $$ that LAA will have to improve (see Hot Carl Crawford) and (2) the pitching staff that Oak has (see Rangers' box scores vs T. Cahill every time we face him).
What do you say?

Most seem to be pessimistic about the A's chances of
a) signing a top free agent
b) resigning their young pitchers to long term deals
Given Beane’s track record, why wouldn’t the fans be pessimistic about them? Most are recognizing that they have a good-not-great young team that needs some help to get to the next level. Sounds realistic, not pessimistic, to me.

Angels/A's
Angels won’t have a ton of money to spend. Remember, they’ll still be paying Gary Matthews Jr. $11M to not be an Angel next season. Plus, the elite FAs are few and far between. Somebody will moneywhip them, and it won’t be the Angels.
A’s have great young pitching, but their offense is just so putrid that I don’t see them being able to put it together.
Rangers should still be the favorites next year – even with Kendry Morales returning.

Negative.
The A’s have tremendous pitching. In that ballpark, which they play 50% of the time in, they will do fabulous and will rock the 2-1 ball games.
Beane needs some gap hitters (MY would be a great fit there) and that may help their chances. They also need to keep with the defensive mindset and not stray from that. The A’s are my biggest concern for 2011.

How are you not pessimistic about everything
if you live in Oakland.
If you live outside of Oakland, how do you root for the A’s over San Fran?
