Does either make the 40?
I'm loving the winning, but two questions will not leave my head. Do either of the following players make the 40 man roster in the winter?
Miguel de los Santos. Normally I would say definately not since he is in low a ball, but the strikeout rate makes me wonder if he needs protecting.
Chad Tracy. I would lean towards no, but the upper minors lack hitting prospect depth so it might be worth ensuring what depth there is.

No to Tracy, but if Mikey of the Saints is Rule 5 eligible (I didn't realize he would be), definitely need to protect him
That dude is legit.
THE RANGERS ARE FULL OF UNBELIEVEABLE SUCK GIVE UP NOW IT DOES NOT MATTER GOOD BYE.

absolutely
between the different leagues this year, the man has 204 strikeouts in 122.2 IP (16 k/9). Not to mention his 2.82 ERA and his 1.1 WHIP. That’s almost unfair. Consider him man-crushed.

I think you are misreading that...
When you go to Miguel De Los Santos’s page on minorleaguebaseball.com, it has rows for his statistics for each team that he has played for and then puts his cumulative numbers for all teams in the minor leagues in the row labeled “Minors.” He has 102 strikeouts in 61.1 innings (half of what you wrote on both counts).
De Los Santos has somewhat impressive numbers in his 29.1 innings for Hickory, the highest level competition he’s faced in the minor leagues. I’d be surprised, but not necessarily completely shocked, if the Rangers added him to the 40-Man Roster after this season. After all, for him to be drafted — and lost — would require another team to promote him four levels and keep him on their 25-Man Roster for all of 2011. I’d really have to know specifically which team(s) would seriously consider doing that before thinking he needs to be protected.

Migs was signed in 06 as an international FA
That makes him R5 eligible in ’11 rather than this year, yes?

Lucas says no
Ovispo is R5 eligible too? Has he been in the DSL all this time?

You count the year they signed in most cases
So he would be eligible yes.
Hes an intriguing candidate due to his K numbers. I am working on a complete offseason roster update that I will post sometime in early September. I am waiting to see if they add anyone else (Scheppers mainly) to the 40 between now and then that could affect things.
I will be surprised if
Miguel De Los Santos is not protected. And I think he’d get taken if he wasn’t. There is very little chance that Chad Tracy will be.
So
would require another team to promote him four levels and keep him on their 25-Man Roster for all of 2011
is his rep/scouting reports that high around the league? You thinking someone like KC or PIT?

He has three big league pitches
what he needs to refine is command. I could easily see a team sticking him in a bullpen next year. Lefties that throw 91-94 with plus changeups and good curveballs don’t come around all that often.
Gotcha, thanks.

The worry I have with DLS...
…is that he’s going to be another one of these guys out of options before he’s M.L. ready.

I kind of thought MDLS would be a candidate to move fairly quickly next year.
maybe finish the year in AA.
My Big Worry is....
That someone will Fabio Castro him, keep him on the 25 man until like July, and then option him back to the Rangers basically wasting a year of development for him.
My biggest worry is that since hes only in A ball we don't protect him
Someone picks him up for nothing and he turns into a stud
