Thursday a.m. Rangers stuff
Great game last night, and the Rangers are now in position to go for the sweep tonight.
Jeff Wilson's game story talks about how, with the Rangers' top two relievers unavailable last night, the rest of the bullpen stepped up and contributed to getting the game closed out.
Ron Washington says, in T.R. Sullivan's game story, that Michael Kirkman, Alexi Ogando, and Matt Harrison grew up last night.
Evan Grant takes a closer look at Washington's bullpen moves from last night. Richard Durrett has clubhouse reactions from last night's game.
Sullivan has a lot of stuff up in his notes on the Rangers website, including updates on Frank Francisco and the newest Ranger, Alex Cora.
Anthony Andro's notes include info on Washington's plan to start Jorge Cantu for five straight games, and the decision to rest David Murphy last night.
Wilson has a story about Cora joining the Rangers.
Matt Harrison is adjusting to his new role as a reliever.
Tim Cowlishaw says the Rangers need to pass Minnesota and nail down home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

by rollin_rockin_rangers on Aug 26, 2010 11:22 AM CDT up reply actions
Just because it worked doesn't make it ok.
My philosophy on bullpen management is that on any given night, a pitcher’s command may be off and he may not have his best stuff. So when a pitcher comes in and obviously has command (like O’Day last night), you keep him in for a full inning or longer instead of taking the chance on bringing in a different pitcher who may or may not have his command. The more pitchers you pitch, the more likely it is that one will be “off.” Obviously, if a particular batter really struggles against lefties or historically mashes your pitcher, you make the switch. With two pitchers unavailable, it’s even MORE important to get the most innings out of every pitcher you bring in.
Last night, Ron’s strategy worked, but IMO it’s likely to blow up in his face in the future.
Old School Brutha also had Moreland & Judy Borbon
in the line-up against Duensing and that didn’t work out well either (combined 0 for 6 with 4Ks and a costly skull-fuck by Moreland).
Difficult to throw serious darts at Wash for this because the team won but it doesn’t mean he did a good job assembling that line-up…it just happened to work.

Wash did have a 90+% chance that the Rangers would win the game though
Putting who he thought gave him the best chance of getting 2 more outs was risky, but it was a move you can afford to do when you have a lead and 2 outs to go.

Very, very nice win last night. Don't look now, we're 5-1 against a pesky FIghting Showalter team

The Goods – Vladdy, Face, CJ getting thru without his best stuff, Kirkman, Ogando, Matty Ice, O’day (Wash maneuvering of bully -hey, it worked).
The Bads – CJ/Fat Fuck lack of chemistry, Moreland skull-fucking ball in RF, Judy Borbon strikes out three times (post AS Break OPS sitting at .500).
Something else I noticed….just keep your eye on it. On the ball Mauer hit to Face’s left (in the 7th?) that he dove for and went off his glove…Tiny E sat there with both thumbs up his ass. was out of control. We were sitting out in right field and a few of us were just like “shit Molina, get on the same page!” That top half of the 5th was brutal.
Happy birthday to Kenny. Happy birthday to you.

Hey guys? SBN's running slow today
So if your comment doesn’t appear instantly DON’T FUCKING HIT “POST” AGAIN.
"You promised me, Eckstein, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I noticed that during the most trying periods of my life, there have only been one set of prints in the sand. Why, when I have needed you most, have you not been there for me?" David Eckstein replied, "Because my little legs had gotten tired, and you were carrying me." And I looked down and saw that I was still carrying David Eckstein.
Then he grounded out weakly to second.
Calm down Francis.
DON’T FUCKING HIT "POST" AGAIN.

The Mantis has bigger biceps and impossibly ripped washboard abs that we could never attain.

While leaving the game last night...
I was working my way out of the parking lot. Me and this other doucher got in a “who blinks first” situation on getting out of there. I was following the “I’ll let this guy in, then it’s my turn” mantra … so I let the guy coming in from a different direction get in front of me, then let it be known I was going next. Well, the other guy wasn’t going for it. So he kept inching up and we were literally inches from each others car (including the one I let in). I had the right angle for me to be the one to leave, so I knew I’d be the one to get the spot… but the cock sucker actually scraped up on my front end from trying to be the one who got out first. If people would do the “you let a car in front of you, then it’s your turn” process, things would be so much easier. I can’t stand people who aren’t courteous…which was why I was not going to just let him go. Fucking annoying!
Happy birthday to Kenny. Happy birthday to you.
No, no fight...
It was 2 guys, then it was my wife and I. Naturally, my wife was like “Honey, stop!” and all that bull shit… but I wasn’t going to let him bully his way through instead of waiting like everyone else. When he hit up against my front end, I looked over at him and he was just staring at me. So we mad dogged each other for a second, then he realized his path wasn’t going to get him out first, then I eased on through. Funny thing is that at the 2 mph we scraped each other at, I still have a little battle scar above my left front tire. LOL.
Happy birthday to Kenny. Happy birthday to you.
I normally cringe when people suggest escalating minor stuff,
but since he actually hit you that all goes out the window. Did you get his plates or anything?
Dude, it's a he said/she said type of thing...
That parking lot had so many cars in it waiting to get out. He would have said that he had the right of way. I basically held my ground on the principle of the thing. It’s just a minor scuff. I don’t like impatient people, so I wasn’t going to allow him to have his way. Like I said, things would go so much smoother if people would let one person go in front of them, then take their turn to go and so on.
Happy birthday to Kenny. Happy birthday to you.
Yeah, that's how I do it too,
but it bugs me that he was an asshole and is going to get away with it. I guess I’m picturing it wrong in my head, cause from the picture I’m seeing it would’ve been pretty clearly him at fault.
Here's my strategy
I act like I don’t eve see them. I look out the side while secretly watching the car in front of me so the other guy thinks “holy shit – that guy’s not paying attention and is going to run into me.” I also do it with pedestrians – act like I’m looking out the window of for something on the floor when they try to jaywalk.

To me.....it all depends who has been there the longest in the traffic jam.......
If I have been sitting in a line of 40 cars for 30 minutes…..and then you cut across the parking lot and get as close to the exit as possible and expect me to let your ass in after waiting 30 seconds….you can go fuck yourself!!
That bullshit of each line lets one car go at a time goes out the window when people cut the parking lot.
our year??
Absolutely.
The line that the other car was in wasn’t even really a legit line… it just sort of materialized out of nowhere. Not sure when. But I waited my turn as I should have. Even with the bogus line, there was nothing I could do about that. But with the dude trying to skip ahead of me after I let the guy in front of him go ahead…. nu uh, I ain’t going for that. Now if he would have got out, I would have, too. My adrenaline was rushing already from the prick brushing up on my car.
Happy birthday to Kenny. Happy birthday to you.

Cliff is on the mound and we have the mojo going right now. A complete game or a shut out? I mean this team is playing like a pack of badasses and I really think we can sweep this thing.

Numbers
HFA magic number 36
with a win tonight (at home with Cliff Lee pitching), the HFA magic number becomes 34
Elimination Numbers:
Baltimore 3
Pittsburgh 6
Arizona 9
Seattle 14
Cleveland 15
Washington/Cubs 16
We are going to lose our first team this weekend, and as many as 7 by next Sunday.
Elimination number goes down with ANYONE ahead of you winning, right?

I just noticed in the picture that Jim Joyce's fu man chu

“CJ Wilson won his sixth straight decision, which extends a career best. He’s 6-0 with a 2.29 ERA in eight starts since the All-Star break. The most telling stat: Texas is now 20-6 in his 26 starts this season and has won 14 of the past 16 of those. "

I don't think I can take another Cliff Lee loss
I didn’t want to demand the sweep, but I have to because this game is critical to my well-being.
seeing as how it's always my fault for demanding sweeps
I’m going to concede a loss tonight

bigsteve
cowlishaw echoing my sentiments that you and i discussed yesterday:
…The other is that Wednesday’s game with the Twins was nowhere near SRO status – the paid crowd was 29,926 – and this series is just flat-out more important.
I realize the difference between a school-night game and a Saturday night and how much that plays into attendance.
But the Rangers and Twins are, in all likelihood, battling for the second best record among division winners. That will change if the White Sox, who trail Minnesota by 3 ½ games, make a push (possibly a Manny Ramirez-fueled push) for the Central title in September…
he was talking about why is saturday sold out when a more important game was 29,000 last night. he goes on to talk about significance of HFA in the playoffs.
i may not be right, but it’s good that i’m not alone in my disappointment.
I wish every game was a sellout
But realistically its not gonna happen here unless we had a 20000 seat stadium.
But just because we “only” sold ~30K last night doesn’t mean people don’t care. Like I argued yesterday the Twins simply aren’t a glamorous enough team to get people to put their lives on hold to go watch play baseball. And with the Rangers holding such a big division lead a sense of complacency has come over fans because we can withstand a loss without it costing us a division lead.
Durrett
Reax:
“Relax” maybe?
Matt Harrison, with the crowd whipped up, got the final two batters via strikeouts to end the game.
the last batter grounded out
Harrison said Wednesday’s game was a lot different from the save he earned in Detroit earlier this year.
the save was against the Pirates, no?
I stopped reading after that. There may be more mistakes.
If we had a bomb, Pantera would hang out with us.
