Since the Rangers have been doing so well this season, thanks in great part to the ex-Angels on their team like Vladdy, Benjie, and Darren, all of a sudden everything’s changed.

Part of that same post. I believe Josh has screamed BALLGAME! ever since he got here.
In fact, one of the Ranger TV reporters who covers all the Ranger ballgames has gotten so excited about plays and he yells, "Ball game!!" at the top of his lungs whenever the Rangers win, that I swear he’s having an orgasm in the booth. Anyway, my point in all this is there’s definitely been a snowball effect with even people who didn’t follow baseball before now jumping on the proverbial Ranger bandwagon.

This is the dumbest argument ever.
It shows that the Angels either a) are bad at evaluating talent, or b) couldn’t keep their best players.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World
Seriously, it’s a masterpiece. Everything is spot on: the casting, the dialogue, the fight scenes, even the graphic novel style visuals, and the video game sound cues.
I cannot think of a way that movie could be legitimately better than it is.
will non-comic book guys like it?
with all these recs on it, I think I should probably watch it the next time I’m at the theater in a couple of weeks.
"Does this effectively hide my thunder?"
I actually think an appreciation of video games will help more than an appreciation for comic books.
I’m not really into comic books at all, I’ve read a few, but not a lot. And I haven’t read the ones the movie is based on.
You need a quirky/nerdy sense of humor to really appreciate the movie, I think.
It was good...
but not that good. It’s not like it was the Godfather or something.

I wonder if Francis Ford Coppola
ever thought his masterpiece would be challenged by Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World?
by lost in space on Aug 27, 2010 6:22 PM CDT up reply actions
Scott Pilgrim isn't for everyone. I'll admit that.
But, from a technical standpoint everything works. It’s rare that you see everything come together that well.
Oh, and I'll stand by my assessment.
Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World is my favorite movie right now. I absolutely fucking love it.
Ok let me ask...
is my assumption that it’s a chick flick way off here?
by lost in space on Aug 27, 2010 6:38 PM CDT up reply actions
Well that's beats the hell out of a chick flick
by lost in space on Aug 27, 2010 6:42 PM CDT up reply actions
It could sound like a chick flick if put forward the right way.
So it isn’t completely off-base. After all it’s about a young man and a young woman trying to find a relationship while dealing with emotional issues brought about by problems in their past relationships.
Of course when you add that Scott is constantly attacked by Ramona’s exes, a series of warriors with mystical powers, who are literally trying to kill him, it drifts away from that a little.
agreed.
that and Inception are the only two movies this summer I wanted to immediately see again. the A-Team is destined to be a great cable movie, too, somewhere in the range of Rush Hour 1 or 2.
No, I like to rock n' roll all night and *part* of every day. I usually have errands... I can only rock from like 1-3.

I've seen two this year.
Kick Ass, which was good and Scott Pilgrim which is fucking awesome.
That’s a lot for me. Before that I’d seen about one movie in the theaters over like a five or six year period.
I enjoyed Kick Ass
I hated it when Big Daddy died

by SonnyKoufaxLSU on Aug 27, 2010 6:21 PM CDT up reply actions
Hit Girl and Big Daddy made that movie.
Kick Ass’ weak point is, oddly enough, that the title character becomes a spectator in his own movie. 3/4 of the movie is him stuck on a wall/tied to a chair watching someone else be a bad ass.
Of course, they’re worth watching be bad asses.
I'm the type who loves to go to the cinemas.
This year, in theatres, I’ve seen:
Avatar
Alice in Wonderland
The Edge of Dreaming
David Wants to Fly
Ajami
Kings of Pastry
Red Dragonflies
Go Get Some Rosemary
In the Attic: Who Has a Birthday Today?
Summer Wars
Iron Man 2
Robin Hood
The Ghost Writer
Toy Story 3
Inception
Then there’s 1-2 more that I’m missing for some reason
A lot of those were from the film festival here in April
I've seen Inception...
and the film I saw before that was Where The Wild Things Are.

I loved WTWTA
Was one of my Top 5 of 2009 (along with A Serious Man, Moon, Broken Embraces, and the White Ribbon)
But fully understand it’s a movie that’s really polarizing.
It was top five for me as well.
But last year was a tough year too. Not anywhere as great as 2008.

Beyond the usual suspects, there were things like The Visitor and Shotgun Stories, both of which I just adored.

I really, really like Chan-wook Park (Oldboy is great, but I also really thought I’m a Cyborg, But That’s OK was fucking brilliant), but I never got around to watching Thirst. I should probably correct that, as a lot of people whose opinions I trust really enjoyed it.
That movie was incredible.
Chan-wook Park can almost do no wrong it seems. For some reason, I just now discovered Joon-ho Bong. Memories Of Murder is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.

I'm thinking about going to see the Avatar rerelease tonight after the game...
just because I’ve never seen it and I suspect the only reason to see it is the 3-D experience.

I wouldn't say it's the only reason.
I think it’s a decently enjoyable film, but “decently enjoyable” should probably be shorter.
However, it’s an awesome, awesome, awesome film to watch in a theatre setting, especially with 3D. I could enjoy watching it on DVD, but I would never think about owning it or scheduling around it.
I can’t think of another movie like that.
If you can go see it at IMAX
Then that would be best. Not just regular 3D…immerse yourself in that environment.

by ghostofErikThompson on Aug 27, 2010 7:30 PM CDT up reply actions
Really, the theatre I went to to see Scott Pilgrim had Avater in IMAX and I shook my head.
My thought was, ’Didn’t this mediocre movie already get it’s chance?’
I saw it in non-3D at a friend's, and it was very meh without the 3D.
But I’m not sure how impressed I’d have been even in 3D after the first thirty minutes or so. Wooo aliens… seems like it would still get old quick, because it is very predictable (and not in a really fun way, either, at least for me).
I don't think I'll ever sit down and watch it on Blu Ray
But I did really enjoy it at the theatre. I wasn’t expecting some groundbreaking plot though.

Playoff Predicament
So I didn’t realize it until today— but my mom got access to buy playoff packages due to buying me a 10game pack for Christmas last year.
I know I plan on going to playoff games this year (at least one), but now I’m pondering buy a strip or two. The cheap strips are about $500 for upper box which include all home playoff games. However, if the games don’t get played I don’t get cash back, I just get Rangers credit back. I don’t know if I’ll spend that much next year.. (being out of town alot)..
Does anyone know if they credit my Rangers account will I have to use that credit in one year or do you think it will last for a few seasons if I don’t go through it all in 2011?
When they credit your account
for games that don’t happen in the postseason, they don’t do it till after the WS. They call and try to get you to buy vouchers or something, but you can have it credited. Happened to me last year.
And another shitty thing, did you notice (as I did) that they are making you buy a tie-breaker game?
Actually, I should say
they will give you your money back in full for games that don’t happen if you ask them to. Check w/ your salesman to be sure tho
Thanks
If I can get my money back I’m much more inclined to buy a couple strips. My fear was being stuck with $800 in Ranger credit for 2011.
Remember
that’s money back for games that don’t happen (i.e. that bullshit tie breaker game, us not getting home field in the ALDS/ALCS, series’ not going all the way, etc). But if you simply choose to not go to a game that is actually at RBiA, I don’t think you’re eligible for a refund.
Hope that LA didn't get anything back

Question for you guys about the sale...I know we've all moved on but...
When Greenberg and Crane were initially in the running to purchase the team, they didn’t actually bid on the Rangers, right? It was more about Hicks picking Greenberg for an “exclusive negotiating window” because Crane wouldn’t have been approved by MLB yet Greenberg would have right?
That then started the whole thing that made the creditors angry, as they contended there wasn’t an actual bidding process on the team — so they weren’t getting as much money as they could have.
