Sullivan: Rangers still interested in Lowell

T.R. Sullivan says that the Rangers are still exploring the possibility of acquiring Mike Lowell from Boston.

I don't know what to say about that at this point.  They've been interested in Lowell forever, and he's not real good, but he's probably not any worse than Jorge Cantu at this point.

I'm willing to let a guy like Holland "figure things out"

if I’m paying you $8 million a year, or whatever Harden is getting, you’d better well have figured things out a long time ago.

Really Rich?

He’s made 17 starts this season and has had things figured out for maybe 3 or 4 of those games. He’s had, what, 3 of those “final chance” starts this season and has failed after each one of those. Its August 31 and this team is looking at getting the best playoff roster they can. Does Harden really expect this team to continue letting him figure things out with a month left in the season?

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Whatever, just release him. He has already had more than enough chances...

his sucking has nothing to do with a lack of ‘being out there’.

Pitch better and you’ll be out there more. It’s crazy how that works.

He cannot and will not take any narcotic pain relievers due to his history

he details it in his book. With his addictive personality, he WILL not allow the MDs to prescribe any of them. He is still tested 3 times a week. Also, he wants people to know he is clean so he does not want to even be able to blame a positive test on a pain med given by a MD, even if its for a legit medical purpose.

by RQ on Aug 31, 2010 5:57 PM CDT up reply actions

If he's in that much pain

it would probably require enough narcotic to fuck him up at the plate anyway.

by Black Francis on Aug 31, 2010 6:26 PM CDT up reply actions

There have been some questionable explanations given about Hamilton's knee problems

First, we have been told that he has tendinitis of the knee, and that he has had his knee injected with cortisone now twice. Cortisone injections are never delivered into the knee for patellar or quadriceps tendinitis as it will lead to a possible rupture. Cortisone injections are given into the knee for joint swelling for problems like arthritis, post-injury or post-surgical swelling, gout, rheumatoid flare-ups, etc.

Second, Hamilton has been given injections of Hyaluronic Acid into his knee. These viscosupplementation injections are done to hyperlubricate a knee that has some early arthritis. They are never done for tendinitis.

This leads us to the question of whether or not the problem is tendinitis at all. I think the obvious conclusion is that it is not tendinitis at all.

Sit him down.

i am not a doctor but common sense would seem to say that if he is hurting and we can mantain a comfortable lead without him then let him rest up for the post season. He can get in some work every so often but he is the last guy we can afford to lose.

As a nonMD medical proffesional...

if it is deemed that he cannot make it worse playing (which is true for many injuries), why sit him. Is Josh at 90% better than his replacement, Julio or Murphy? The Rangers must still win ballgames and this offense goes as Josh goes. Also, he is in a groove. If he sits, he will have to have time to get his timing back, and you never know how much timie it takes. they will prob rest him once a series here on out if he can play, but cant afford to let him get cold.

Lowell not going to happen

Per TR:

The Rangers and the Red Sox have been dancing around Mike Lowell for seven months. Now it looks like the dance will end with nothing happening.

Thursday afternoon the word was the Rangers were engaged in Lowell.

Now the Rangers are saying that’s not going to happen.

Said a club official, “Nothing is happening with Lowell.”

At this point Jeff Francouer may be the Rangers best chance of getting a right-handed bat.

I highly disagree

I think he CAN bring a lot of value to the pen. I’m not saying he WILL, but the guy has some of the most dominant innings of anybody on our staff for an inning or two at a time – maybe that’s what his true value is for us for the rest of the year, especially now that Frankie’s hurt?

He also has some of the LEAST dominant innings of anyone on the staff.

You don’t need a guy to come out of the pen walking 2 guys an inning. He’ll usually come in with men on base. He’ll have that against him. He’ll not be used to a different warm up procedure. That’s against him. Sure, he can strike out the side, but how often has he done that? And how often has that been done without walking anyone?

Zero confidence in him throwing well.

For a playoff team with the biggest divisional lead in baseball

we’ve sure gone through a lot of players:

C: Salty, Teagarden, Max gone; Traenor, Benji
1B: Davis, Smoak, Arias gone; Moreland, Cantu
2B: Kinsler; Arias gone; Blanco, Guzman
SS: Andrus, Blanco
3B: Young, Blanco
OF: Hamilton, Borbon, Cruz, Moreland, Vlad; Gentry, Boggs gone

and then there was Khalil Greene; and now we’re rolling forward with ideas of Lowell and Franceour? At least most of our rotation has been steady for most of the season – minus the 5th slot and the pre-Cliff Lee slot
