Poor Ol' Joaquin Arias...News

Good news and bad news for the newest NY Met.

Good: He got to start at Shortstop tonight.

The Bad: His first two plays 1) A routine grounder he promptly boots.  2) His second chance another routine grounder midway between infield grass and outfield grass on the dirt where he couldn't reach first base in the air...resulting in an infield single.

I guess to add insult to injury...his first at bat he had bases loaded and couldn't get the ball out of the infield...but I guess for the Mets...thats par for their course!

DPLennon Two plays for Arias at SS. Kicks one routine grounder, then can’t reach first base on the other. Put in Tejada while #Mets have 2-1 lead.

And, he just swung and missed at pitch 2 feet outside...

The pitch was so far outside, the catcher missed it and Arias ran to first, beating the throw. He’s really showcasing his tool-set.

You would think Arias might benefit from a change of scenery

but apparently the exact opposite happened.

We better get apologies from Dan Z, Kevin Goldstein, and any other mf’ers out there who thought we got the raw end of that deal.

I don't think anyone thinks we got the raw end of the deal

Just that Frenchy blows, and it’s kind of a zero-sum acquisition.

Is there

any way you can say the bag of suck we gave away is as good as Frenchy in any way? I know you want to, I’m just curious if you can.

by CS3 on Sep 2, 2010 11:32 PM CDT up reply actions

Why would I want to?

It’s a 0.0 WAR player versus a -0.2 WAR player. They’re pretty much equally worthless in the grand scheme, Arias just slightly moreso when you get down to it.

Well Frenchy has done something in the majors

He has way for talent than the Roach does. If Wash plays him correctly he will be worth more than Arias will be to the Mets.

Because he kept sticking on the 25 man roster

despite not being able to throw, hit or field.

No, many writers/bloggers were very clear that the Rangers made a terrible decision trading anyone for Francoeur

But they didn't just trade anyone

They traded Arias which is just as good as a bag of balls.

Even when told Arias was terrible, some of the bloggers claimed it didn't matter, he was still too much to give up for Frenchy

Which is ridiculous. Frenchy is a mediocre player but >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Cockroach.

The national bloggers and Mets analysts honestly didn’t understand the extent of Arias’s awfulness, but it would appear they’re quickly being educated.

I agree

At least Frenchy has done something at the MLB level. Arias is off to a great start in NY. I can’t believe they started him at ss last night. When was the last time he played there?

Err.... Mets fans disagree
•The spindly Joaquin Arias nubbed an RBI infield single in the first inning, his first base knock as a Met. Even more notable, it came with the bases loaded. He was acquired. He was clutch. He is counted.
Arias got a hit with the bases loaded tonight… He is special #A-1 super great Mets starpower man in my book. I’m buying my jersey tonight.

He will be perfect with the Mets :)

They are delusional enough there where he should get a honeymoon the rest of the season.

Conversation between Seattle and Mets GM

Mets- Hey can we interest you in a utility infielder? We’ll trade him for that Lueke kid you got from Texas and save you a PR nightmare of having a rapist on your team.

Seattle- Wow! Really? That would be great and it might save my job. Who did you have in mind?

Mets- Arias.

Seattle- (Silence)

Mets- Well?

Seattle- I’m thinking…
