Lack of due diligence
If I were a mariners fan, I would be mad about the lack of due diligence. The other article mentioned that he never thought of a google or facebook search. Should be automatic, especily if there are some unknown off-field issues.
by CDorsey on Sep 2, 2010 8:06 PM CDT via mobile reply actions
This is the biggest thing
Anybody who read the minors threads in the early part of the season here knew about Lueke. The first thing I told my friends about the Lee trade was that we traded away kind of a good pitcher but he was mired in rape charges so it might have been a good thing he’s gone. The link to that newspaper article was all over this site. How is it that so many here knew and nobody in the front office knew?
I have to believe that actually a bunch of people knew exactly what happened but Armstrong didn’t and nobody realized Armstrong would care so much.
So he is either incompetent or a liar
And he has chosen to tell the baseball world he is incompetent and John daniels is a liar. Either way, I would fire or demote him.

I want to know who JD gave them a choice between if we took Lueke back
Could’ve beeen a piss poor prospect

Why? It’s not true. To me, it’s pretty apparent that Zoinks and crew identified this guy as someone they wanted, and they realized that Armstrong would strike it down given the Mariners’ (and Armstrong in particular) strong relationship with womens groups. As a result, he tried to sweep it under the rug when questioned about it and a bit later it blew up in his face.
It’s one thing to believe that Zoinks himself didn’t look up Leuke, it’s another to think that the Mariners scouts who watched Frisco or the other dozen or so FO guys who were in on the trade didn’t stumble upon it. It’s unbelievable because it’s totally false.
I think you are right
But the article linked in the Joey matches(?) article (the Seattle paper?) has a quote from the Gm that he never thought to do a google or facebook search.

Yep, even if you think Daniels was lying (and he wasn't) it would STILL
mean the Mariners front office should be checking into the story in detail before making a deal. There is absolutely no excuse for not knowing.

Yep
Jeff nailed it on the head. I’m definitely glad he tackled the important issue, the question about Zduriencik’s ineptitude/dishonesty in this whole ordeal, rather than just taking the “on-the-field-talent is all that matters” stance that commentators on LL have taken.
Good grief

A few more places saying the same thing.
http://networkedblogs.com/7tGnx
He began the 2010 season in the Rochester bullpen and has been moving back and forth from the bullpen to the rotation. He was the Red Wings player of the week just last week and has been the team’s top pitcher of late. Consider that David Bromberg and Kyle Gibson have been shut down, and Fox makes a lot of sense. He last started on Monday, so he is going on just three days rest, so it will be interesting to see if he is on a pitch count.
http://www.1500espn.com/sportswire/Mackey_Sorting_out_the_aftermath_of_Thursdays_13inning_mess
On the topic of bullpen availability, Jesse Crain is definitely out for Friday, according to manager Ron Gardenhire, and it’s likely Brian Fuentes (back), Matt Guerrier (extensive workload) and Jeff Manship (four innings on Thursday) are out. Matt Capps was unavailable on Thursday night due to soreness, so his status for Friday is questionable.
Regarding Friday night’s starting pitching conundrum — one that likely could have been avoided with the addition of an extra bullpen arm or two — the Twins have very few options available.
Friday’s originally scheduled starter Nick Blackburn has been pushed back to Sunday, which is when Brian Duensing was originally scheduled to start. Duensing, after throwing 33 pitches over two innings on Thursday night, has been moved to the back of the rotation.
Things might actually look pretty good for us tomorrow. A rookie pitcher making his ML debut on short rest and a probably pitch count for a team which ran its bullpen dry today and will have to call up more AAA arms to supplant it.
Also Blackburn on Sunday rather than Duensing.
