Jeff Wilson with some playoff roster notes

Jeff Wilson has a blog post up at the S-T Rangers blog about the pending decisions on the playoff roster.

It sounds like Tommy Hunter will be on the roster whatever happens, although it is possible Cliff Lee starts Game 4 on short rest. The first base and bullpen situation still needs to be sorted out, with Wilson suggesting Frank Francisco being available for the ALDS is looking unlikely.

I really haven't...

had time to play it a lot yet. I’ve spent about and hour messing around with it so far. There certainly are some big differences, but many of the gameplay similarities are still there.

I’m sure I’ll love it. I loved both 3 and 4 as well as 2. Really, the entire series is great. It wil be nice when I have an entire day off that I can just veg out and play it all day.

I've heard that it's slightly more "dumbed down" than IV

And that the vanilla package isn’t that great, but that isn’t a problem. Won’t be long until some killer mods are out

No FrankFrank is a pretty big deal.

I don’t trust Ogando in pressure situations (mainly w/ runners on) and I’m worried about DOD’s back…

Rotation rest of way

So Lewis will most surely start next Saturday. Holland won’t go wed on 3 days rest. Which means he likely starts last game on sunday unless they want hunter to start that. I wonder who starts monday and Tuesday (and wed if hunter starts sunday)? Figure Feldman gets one. Who gets the other? Moscoso, mathis, McCarthy? Or nippert/Harrison combo?

Lee will pitch Thursday and Wilson will pitch Friday so that they are on their normal rest for Games 1 and 2.

To be on regular rest, Lee needs to pitch on Friday and Wilson on Saturday.

Monday – Wilson
Tuesday – probably Feldman
Wednesday – Hunter
Thursday – Holland
Friday – Lee
Saturday – Wilson
Sunday – Lewis

Game 1 – Lee
Game 2 – Wilson
Game 3 – Lewis
Game 4 – Lee
Game 5 – Wilson

Frankie absolutely shouldn't be in the ALDS bullpen

He hasnt pitched in weeks, he isnt going to pitch in live action until next weekend, why would you waste a spot on him?

Ok, so are you really going to get more out of Mitch than Davis at the plate? No. So you go with defense.

Let Davis play first, Jorge can pinch hit against lefties late in games.

Well....I'd take Kirkman over Hunter for long duties and have Rapada as the situational lefty taking Hunter's roster spot.

If you’re going to go with a 3 man rotation you’re carrying Hunter only to piggyback Lee for Gm 4 or are you going to use Hunter out of the pen?

I would use Hunter in the 5-6th in games

But ya, he is on there because he deserves it, he earned it.

Rapada is ok, but is there much difference between him and kirkman against lefties?

Rapada would be a situational type...Kirkman would be a long reliever or the same role that Harden/Hunter/Feldman/Nippert would have.

I just think Kirkman would be more effective in that role than any of the others.

But, hey…that’s just me.

Pretty much how I have it too.

I think I would start Treanor over Molina though. Still kinda undecided about 1B, I don’t trust Chris Davis. And on that next to last bullpen spot, Feldman and Harden aren’t even in the discussion to sniff the playoff roster. If it’s up to me it’s between Holland and Nippert.

So, historically I guess we're looking at night games if we play the Yankees, day games if it's the Rays?

Cowboys play at 3 that Sunday. What a nightmare parking is gonna be.
