Happy birthday, Ed Vosberg
Happy birthday to Ed Vosberg, who turns 49 today.
Vosberg was a lefty reliever who was a key component of the Rangers' bullpen on their first playoff team, establishing himself as a legit major leaguer at the age of 33.
He's primarily remember by Rangers fans for two things, however.
First, he was arrested in 1995 outside of the Ballpark in Arlington for attempting to scalp his all star game tickets. Only with the Rangers...
Secondly, he was part of one of the better trades the Rangers made in the 90s, being sent in 1997 to the Florida Marlins in exchange for Rick Helling, who ended up being a solid part of the Ranger rotation for the next several years.

The concept of a major league player scalping his tickets to the All Star Game never ceases to amuse me
THE RANGERS ARE FULL OF UNBELIEVEABLE SUCK GIVE UP NOW IT DOES NOT MATTER GOOD BYE.
"It has been said that baseball is to the United States what revolutions are to Latin America, a safety valve for letting off steam. I think baseball is more serious than any Latin American revolution. But, then, I am a serious fan." -- George F. Will
I'll never forget that
I laughed for a very, very long time when I heard that.
When you're drowning, you don't say 'I would be incredibly pleased if someone would have the foresight to notice me drowning and come and help me,' you just scream.
lol

Fairly certain
There’s a clause on the back of the ticket that states you can’t sell the tickets for more than face value within a certain number of feet of the ballpark.

It totally depends on the locale
in Phoenix you’ll get scalpers right across the street because it’s legal.

This is correct
States determine whether or not scalping is legal. Most commonly it is illegal to resell the tickets on the club’s property.
In Minnesota, you can resell tickets if you are licensed but not for more than face value. You cannot resell tickets on the grounds of the event. Previous to 2007 scalping was illegal entirely.
In my experiences at Camden Yards you can resell on site but in a designated resale area.
Aren't scalpers usually the people with signs asking for tickets?

Yes
This is because scalpers cannot be arrested for asking for tickets. However, if they had a sign that said tickets were for sale they could be arrested.
The funny thing is that even as state’s have begun to legalize scalping (with different levels of restrictions), the signs still persist because scalpers clinging to old habits.
He was my default guess as the "secret Ranger"......
….back when the Hardline used to host Diamond Talk and I actually liked those guys enough to call in nearly every show.

Is Ed Vosberg the one who threw "The Vulcan?"

If he is that would explain a lot
I went to the same high school as Vosberg and were taught a play named “Vulcan”… that would almost be too strange.

If you think it only happens with the Rangers
Minnesota head coach Mike Tice is being investigated by the NFL for allegedly heading up and profiting from a Super Bowl ticket-scalping operation within the Vikings organization, a violation of NFL rules that league sources say has been going on for years.

If I had a gun to my head and had to pick one pitcher to pitch a game to save my life.... I'd pick 1999 Rick Helling.
