A realignment idea
Bored so I came up with my own:
American League:
AL Division 1:
NYY
BOS
NYM
PHI
TOR
AL Division 2:
TEX
ATL
TB
FLO
HOU
AL Division 3:
BAL
PITT
WAS
CLE
CIN
National League
NL Division 1
DET
MIL
MINN
CWS
CHC
NL Division 2
STL
KC
COL
AZ
SEA
NL Division 3
SF
OAK
LAD
LAA
SDG
No real formula other than location.. with NL Div 2 being odd because the Mariners are so far away from everyone else. I didn’t use rivalries or anything to decide where each team went.
Just figured I’d share it.

the problem is that there would have to be an interleague game every day of the year.
I think that’s why the leagues are 16 and 14.
Which would be o.k. if you ask me
I’d rather see one a day than the “It’s interleague time everybody!”

Good luck getting one league to adopt the other's DH rule

Well neither is this realignment...
I don’t think DH would be a huge deal if the league was this mixed up.

When I daydream about this
- and really, what red blooded American baseball fan doesn’t – I just add two more teams.
There need to be 16 teams in each league; 4 divisions per league. 32 is just such a stable point math-wise.
Let’s assume the two added teams are Las Vegas (just cause baseball in Vegas would be awesome) and San Antonio (top ten city, and better for the alignment than Portland, who’d be the next choice I guess)
AL East: Boston, NY, Toronto, Baltimore
AL North: Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Minny
AL South: Tampa, Texas, KC, San Antonio
AL West: Seattle, LAA, Oakland, VEGAS!!!
NL East: NY, Philly, Washington, Pitt
NL North: Cincy, Cubbies, St Louis, Milwaukee
NL South: Florida, Atlanta, Houston, Colorado
NL West: SD, SF, LA, Arizona

Also
I’d actually argue that the lack of a wild card would increase parity. It is in the Yankees and Red Sox interest to outspend other teams in baseball by 2 or 3 to 1 since they’re essentially building rosters for the playoffs every year; if you drop that to less than 50% of the time, it will be difficult to justify spending $200 million for a 2nd place team (and at least one of those would miss the playoffs every year).
Short term, this obviously would be bad for ESPN and baseball’s bottom line; but long term I think it would make the regular season races tighter and give more teams a chance to compete.
Go Rice Owls!
I like this idea
of getting rid of the wild card. One of the things I like about baseball is that the playoffs don’t let everyone in like the NBA and even the NFL to a lesser extent. And like you say, this would really force Boston and NY’s hands in not being able to settle for second place, which would just make for better television.

I like doubt of outcome, and I don't want to drop below 4 teams a league at least.
But the plan above would keep that intact.
4 teams per league I think is perfect

I suppose you two mean per division...
Anyway, I agree that it is perfect, the real argument for the wild card is that a 2nd place team could still be the 2nd best in the league and miss the playoffs, but if you have four teams per division that becomes progressively less likely (not impossible, but with unbalanced schedules, it is difficult)
If random, I think the odds that the 2nd best team in the league would be in the same division as the 1st would drop from ~30% to 20% in the AL by going from the current to the proposed 16/4 format
Go Rice Owls!
Yep, this is what I meant
but I also like 4 divisions of 4 teams.

If you did have to do a wild card
I would propose the following:
4 4 team divisions in each league
1 wild card team chosen from the best non-division winning record (we’ll call that team Boston).
Boston plays a full 3 game series AT the division winner with the worst record. No home games for the wild card team. No days off between the end of season and the start of the actual A/NLDS.
This would delay the real playoffs by 3 days, giving the other teams a chance to set their rotations. This would be a very big negative for the wild card (and the worst division leader, though they would get playoff revenues), but would give them a chance…
Go Rice Owls!
Eh, no expansion...
If expansion did happen, I wouldn’t create a 3rd Texas team. I would look elsewhere.
I wouldn’t do Vegas either. I’d probably shoot for Salt Lake, to try and shorten the gap to Seattle.

Here's my idea.
Contraction for the Houston Astros. And the players are forced to make fancy ladies’ brassieres on off-days.
Because I hate the Astros and Houston and it would be emasculating.
Happy Birthday.
May you have more cilantro than Erin Andrews.
If Brad Pitt is playing Beane who do you want playing you?
JD: Eddie Guardado.
You know who is really fucking hot?
Vanessa Hudgens. If Erin Andrews looked more like Vanessa Hudgens, I’d be able to stomach her worthlessness and snotty attitude more.
My Realignment Idea:
AL:
NY Yankees
Tampa Bay
Minnesota
Boston
Texas
Chicago Sox
Toronto
Detroit
Oakland
Anaheim
Kansas City
Cleveland
Seattle
Baltimore
Houston
NL:
Cincinnati
Atlanta
San Diego
Philadelphia
San Francisco
St. Louis
Colorado
Florida
LA
NY Mets
Milwaukee
Washington
Chicago Cubs
Arizona
Pittsburgh
Pick one of the NL teams and move them to the AL (I picked Houston, but it doesn’t matter).
Each team would play the other 14 teams in their league 11 times. Each team would play 22 interleague games. Top 4 records from each league make the playoffs.
Would this actually work? This seems too simple, I must be missing something…

If you have an odd number in each league, then you can't have only intraleague games
The number of interleague games would definitely need to be more than 22/team.
by Past A Diving Michael Young on Sep 3, 2010 1:34 PM CDT up reply actions
not necessarily
there would only HAVE to be one IL series going on at a time… 162 / 22 = 7… so really you could have 2 series going on at any point in time and still be OK.
Yeah, I meant:
Play the other 14 teams 10 times. That’s 140 games, leaves 22 for interleague.

Every time I read the title of that Fanpost "Can I get a little help?"
….all I hear is “Can I get a fuck you!”

A Wyoming man has given more than $1.5 million to help defend Arizona’s controversial immigration enforcement measure in court, Gov. Jan Brewer’s office said Thursday.
what is great abuot Wyoming
is that since there are only about 400,000 people there, it is actually worth asking WyoRanger if any given story mentioning Wyoming is him

Sad news.
Justin Morneau moved to the 60 day DL. I really want to beat the Twins this weekend, but I still want Morneau back on the field.
Freude schöner Götterfunken, Tochter aus Elysium, Freude!
Being September...
…..there’s really no reason to do this other than to almost admit he’s done for the year.
Yeah, it was talked about last night.
And it’s retroactively, so it’s not necessarily shutting him down for the year.
Yeah, I get all this.
Is the callup some pitcher for bullpen relief this weekend? Otherwise there really is no real reason to do this. It’s not like Morneau got hurt this weekend.
It's tonight's starter

I should add
this is mostly a procedural move to get tonight’s starter, Matthew Fox, on the 40-man roster. It doesn’t necessarily mean Morneau is yet further away from rejoining the team. My comment is mostly about how long he’s already been out, very unfortunate for a guy who was having an MVP caliber year.
Freude schöner Götterfunken, Tochter aus Elysium, Freude!
Yeah, there's that
but there’s also the whole, fighting with the Twins for HFA thing. I want every other playoff team to lose as many games as possible.

this song is very catchy
such a delight
Seattle, dammit!
If the Rangers win and the A’s lose tonight, then all they have to do is keep pace (or not extend the lead by more than 2) and I’ll have a shot.
in Anaheim!
I haven’t been to a Rangers game in ages, and that’d give me the excuse to make my wife watch the baby…
Go Rice Owls!
it better not be
that fuckin game that’s not on tv is all i have to say
imagine we wait 11 years for this and it’s the one day they decide not to pick up nationally (or has fox decided to pick up that game)
Hamilton
Fangraph’s UZR updated today and Hambone’s FLD rating went from like 5.9 to 7.9, and he’s at 7.9 WAR. Good grief
At this rate
I think I’ll consider 9 WAR season from him slightly disappointing

Roster additions
aandro Dustin Nippert, Taylor Teagarden and lefty Clay Rapada are your newest Rangers. Brandon Boggs cleared waivers.
So, I'm in the dark on Rapada..
Assuming he was/is a 40 decision this winter?

• C Taylor Teagarden recalled from Oklahoma City
• LHP Clay Rapada purchased from Oklahoma City
• RHP Omar Beltre recalled from Oklahoma City and placed on 60-day disabled list with a right ankle sprain (making room on the 40-man roster for Rapada)
