Naked Man On LSD Survives Jump
A naked man high on LSD jumped from the top of a cliff at a California beach, but survived the 100-foot fall, the San Jose Mercury News reported Saturday.

“He didn’t fall,” Monte Rio Fire Chief Steve Baxman told the paper. “He wasn’t pushed. People said they watched him jump. Maybe he thought he could fly. I don’t know. It’s still a mystery.”

Who knew all those after school specials were telling THE TRUTH?!?!?!

Worst game of the season

Injuries, beatings, bad pitchings, bad baserunnings….yuck. This game will be forgotten just like that series right before the break with the Oriol….wait….that never happened. Just like today never happened. Nobody overreact now…just move along. Nothing to see here.

I just haven't bought the idea that the playoffs were a done deal...

All it takes is a losing streak on our part and the A’s to get hot…our schedule is tough and the starting pitching is getting very inconsistent.

They don't have a lot of options.

If they play Borbon, they are better off letting the pitcher hit, and DHing for Borbon.

I'm starting to believe in the Black Hole for Pitchers at BPiA Effect.

I would have thought that Cliff Lee was bulletproof, but it sucked him in.
Sadly, it most definitely will affect the decision-making process of other MLB Aces that are courted by the Rangers in the future. Cliff’s success, which still may timely manifest itself in the playoffs, could have helped erase the perceived fear of top pitchers of coming to Texas. Winning in the playoffscould minimize the damage done.

Prediction: Even Nolan Ryan has to be feeling his powers to attract pitchers dimming.
Watch him actively pursue a feasibility study with a goal of physically changing the Stadium into more of a pitchers’ park in the near future. Get ready to open your wallet, Chuckie.

by Clueless on Sep 4, 2010 7:10 PM CDT reply actions

Here's how you do it: rip out the Diamond Club.

The park didn’t play as much as a hitter’s paradise until they put that thing in and closed up the air flow.

by Aquaman, Esq. on Sep 4, 2010 7:16 PM CDT up reply actions

I believe you are thinking of the Cuervo Club

Formerly known as the Gold Club, behind home plate. The Diamond Club is in left field.

But that won’t make it any cooler, though it could (and almost certainly would) reduce the jet stream to right and right center, which wouldn’t be a bad thing.

Some people think that a scoreboard with a lower profile above the home run porch might also alter the wind profile to be more pitcher favorable, but that is unknown.

by Cav0 on Sep 4, 2010 7:32 PM CDT up reply actions

You're exactly right, that's what I was thinking.

It wasn’t there when they first built the stadium, and I remember reading several articles about its impact on the air flow inside the stadium.

So yeah, I finished the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels.

Overall assessment: Great. I think I still prefer the movie, but certain aspects of the books work better, and as expected, given the difference in medium, the characters are fleshed out more.

I will say I think volume six was a bit of a let down after volume five. I thought volume five was the strongest in the series.

I guess this team had a choice this month

Rest all the important guys up, or try to take a run at homefield advantage in the ALDS.

Looks like that decision has been made for them.

I don't think home field matters

The more and more I watch this team the more I’m convinced they’re going to be knocked out in the first round anyway, whether they have home field advantage for the ALDS or not.

I think you are right

that home field doesn’t matter a lot, but I’m not sure they get knocked out. Anything can happen in a short series, and I have no idea what the health of the team is in October.

I think it might matter

Given we’re 43-26 at home and 32-34 on the road this year. The Rangers and the Blue Jays are the only teams in the AL that are above .500 and have losing records on the road.

They may well lose

given that they are the fourth best team in the American League.

But the playoffs are random enough that they have a decent chance of winning despite that. A week or two ago, I would have said that all four teams were pretty evenly matched for a short series. But the Rangers injury problems have flared up (Lee, Hamilton), Lee is looking less invincible (I mean, he’s a great game one starter, sure, but so is Price, Liriano, or CC – and Lee clearly isn’t head and shoulders over all of them), and the Rangers seem to have lost a bit of their focus and are playing sloppy.

I’d put the AL at something like AL East winner – 30%, AL East 2nd – 25%, Minny – 25%, and Texas 20%.

We are going to see the Eagles in Lubbock October 5th, it will be our second time to see them live. First time we saw them was 2003, earlier that year Henley came to Lubbock on a solo tour. Believe it or not he put on a stellar show.
