better prospect: Shelby Miller or Matt Purke?

Purke

Purke is the better prospect but the Rangers would have been much better off drafting and signing Miller over drafting and not signing Purke and getting Skole with the comp. pick. Miller would probably be the first or second arm in the system right now.

So, the first round stands at ...

SPO up 1-0 heading to Everett in a best of 3 series – Stanford has been nails, what’s the parade route?
HIC down 0-1 heading to Lakewood in a best of 2 series – Can Erlin hero them to game 3?
FRS even at 1-1 heading to Midland in a best of 5 series – Might Ross start game 4?
OKC down 0-2 heading home in a best of 5 series – Turn out the lights, party’s over.

Justin Thompson throws from flat ground, coaches up some teenagers ...
Both times McBride faced the AquaSox, his night ended early. McBride allowed 11 earned runs in 72/3 innings against Everett, including a July 11 loss in which he gave up seven earned runs in four innings.
.
But Spokane’s coaches sat down with McBride in mid-August and changed the course of his season.
.
"We had a conversation with him about how to set hitters up and keep the ball down in the zone," Indians manager Tim Hulett said. "He had a tendency to be flat with his fastball and when it was up in the zone, that’s when he would get hit."
.
The result of that talk has been remarkable. In McBride’s final five starts, he allowed two earned runs in 27 innings (0.67 earned-run average).
.
"Now I can go into the offseason really looking forward to next year," said McBride, who was 2-5 during the regular season. "I just have to keep things consistent like I’ve been doing."

I put Erlin in the morning thread
• Erlin was followed by another lefty, Miguel de los Santos — one of three players with the surname de los Santos on Hickory — who faced 15 batters and punched out eight of them with a solid-average fastball at 89-92 and plus changeup at 80-83. He used the change heavily, throwing it for strikes, throwing it at 0-0, ahead in the count, or behind in the count, and throwing it to both sides of the plate, even under right-handers’ hands. He also showed a 70-73 mph curveball that would help if he was starting, but the fastball/changeup alone make him a serious relief prospect. De los Santos struck out the first three men he faced, then walked the leadoff man in his second inning, followed by a double that put men on second and third … after which he struck out the next three guys, showing the kind of guts that scouts love to see in young pitchers.

So, the first round stands today at ...

SPO – up 1-0 in a best of 3 series – Aussie Tim Stanford goes for NWL glory.
HIC – tied 1-1 in a best of 3 series – Jake Brigham is tabbed as the giant-killer vs stacked Lakewood.
FRS – down 1-2 in a best of 5 series – Will Ross be nervous? Or will he earn a game 5 for FRS?
OKC – Swept 0-3 buy Memphis. Dig out yer fishin’ poles, boys.

OKC was kinda doomed with the pitching matchups, or available starting pitchers really

And now they’ve lost like 18 of their last 24 or something close to that.
