I'll drop some NFl thoughts here
Havent looked at it that much but expect this:
SF will suck, badly. Cant believe a few prognosticators (like Mike Greenberg) are picking them for the SB. Unbelievable.
Denver will be good.
The Patriots probably will have another mediocre year.
I think the league is really, really good. If we accept that league level isn’t determined by talent but really by OC’s, I think there’s more good OC’s than ever. I was doing this ESPN rank the teams thing, and some teams that I think are pretty damn good, with good OC’s, I found myself ranking like 15-17, just because there’s much ridiculous quality out there. Two good examples were Arizona and Philly/NYG. Hell add Pittsburgh. All three of those are damn good yet it’s easy to find 10-15 teams better. The league is scary this year. Just in the NFC you’ve got at least three brutally good teams in Minn, GB and NO, and I almost want to throw NYG in there. That’s before you even get to teams like Dallas and Philly.
I’ll probably join this league thingy anyway.
except that they have jay cutler
mr. interception machine.
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

...and im a HUGE martz fan
but the fact that orton > cutler this year is going to be pretty laughable imho.

Patriots another mediocre year? Eh?
They have double digit wins every year since 2001 except for one…when they won 9 games. They also won the division last year.
Explain to me how Denver will be good; I just don’t see it. Not with the injuries they’ve already amassed and trading away their best offensive weapon.
If Brad Pitt is playing Beane who do you want playing you?

Last year was a huge falloff for the Pats
You have to admit that, every year prior since they pretty much had Weis, on to McDaniels, you pretty much had the feeling they were the best team in the league every year, even if they didn’t get to the SB. As a Patriots hater every time they didn’t get to the SB i felt like I dodged a bullet.
Last year was a major difference without McDaniels, suddenly they actually just werent that good. They were actually just another team, a kind of mediocre one. Look at the HOME 33-14 playoff loss to the Ravens, and the fans booing that game and all that. Was def different in NE last year without McDaniels.
I think it has more to do
with some truly horrific draft classes and a poor defense.

The playoffs/season ended terribly and embarrassing for them...
but I don’t think they had a bad season. I think Sharky is blinded by his Pats hate. But I am the other way, mesmerized by Belicheat’s brilliance!
I disagree with all 3 of these.
Frisco’s defense will keep them in games they’ll have no business being in. That division has to be the worst for QB’s. Super Bowl? No. But they won’t suck. 8 or 9 wins.
Last I checked, The Neckbeard was still their starting quarterback. 2-8 to finish the season. Oakland and Kansas City will both be better this year. Forget about it.
The Patriots will have a mediocre year BY THEIR STANDARDS. So…10-6. Brady and Moss are in contract years. They’ll win a few games by themselves.

Re NFL thoughts...
SF has everything but QB. Watching Smith last year, he looked like he was just 2-3 steps slower than everyone else on the field. If he is avg, they will be good. VERY weak division too.
I love McDaniels and Orton, but Denver will struggle, even in a weak division. Questions at RB and WR with Marshall gone. Dawkins a year older, Dumervil lost for the year.
Pats offense is solid. I know it’s preseason, but Welker didn’t look like he was coming off ACL surgery, and Brady was wingin’ it. Those new TEs look phenomenal. I’m not sure about the D, but their O will outscore lots of teams.
‘Zona could really suck. Outside from that Pro Bowl season, Derek Anderson is one of the worst QBs I’ve ever seen. I’ve never seen a guy who can complete 20-30 yard passes effortlessly, but totally miss 3-5 yard passes. Just turbl.
Sports Guy’s rant today about Cowboys was pretty funny. I’m a fan, but I’m worried about them.
And about Chicago
I think they will still suck, but maybe suck less with Martz. But Cutler is a mental mess. We’ll see!
Never heard of him. Just looked him up.
He was stupid for going to straight spread when Smith took over last year and abandon Gore and the running game. They need to find some balance since Gore’s their best weapon. As bad as O’Sullivan was, the team was better when they grinded it out and played ball control. But they didn’t have Crabtree then either.
looking to improve on finishing 9th out of 50 last season
who were the winners last year?
It's fun to do bad things.

not that Leinart would have been any better – they were pretty much screwed when Warner decided to retire in the off season.

I can’t believe the NFC West plays the AFC West this year. It looks to be like getting hit repeatedly in the face with a turd sandwich. They don’t even have the decency to have a lot of good fantasy options out there to make up for the crappy play. It’s what…Gore, Jackson?, Charles?, Matthews? Fitz?, Gates I guess… There are 2-3 teams with no fantasy relevance and a couple more with just one player. Ridiculous.

AFC Division winners: Ind, Bal, SD, NE
AFC WC: Pit, Mia

No.
They’re a good team, but the overachieved last year and will suffer for it this year. There are good teams that will miss the playoffs in the AFC this year, I think Cincy is one.

KC? The Raiders are more likely to win than the Cheifs...
KC is horrible.

It will be interesting to see...
if Crennel and Weis make any difference this year for the Chiefs.
I picked KC because somebody has to win that division.
It might as well be the team with 2 good running backs.

I think SD takes that division by 3 games.

and Matthews is the real deal, they’ll be fine in that division.
NFC Division winners: Minn, SF, Dal, NO
NFC WC: NYG, NO
AFC Division winnders: Ind, Bal, SD, NE
AFC WC: Cinci, Pitt
TB is a team i'm keeping an eye on, though...
…simply because i’m of the opinion that Josh Freeman is going to be special.
They need more talent.
I like the direction they’re moving, but who scares you as a receiving threat? Their defense could be better, I suppose, but that looks like a Top5 pick team to me.

Yeah, Mike Williams needs to be really good. We'll see.
I just love Freeman. I’d imagine they end up around 8-8, though.
So who falls off in the NFC South?
That’s the other issue. If they were in the NFC West and could beat up on Seattle and St. Louis, maybe…

Well, I don't think they win anything this year
But I think there won’t be much difference between them and Atlanta or Carolina
I think...
Atl will bounce back from last year and be more like Ryan’s rookie year when they made the playoffs. If Matt Moore is as good as the end of the season last year, Carolina will be fine.
I think Freeman will be good eventually...
but maybe too soon in his 2nd year, especially with limited weapons around him.
dont short change benn

Rookie WR's
The most you can hope for is good/great No. 2 fantasy WR type production. I don’t think that will be enough.

I know...
I just think Minn. is going to be a better all-around team (on the back of Adrian this year). I had to pick 2 of 3 between NYG, DAL, and GB… and I left out what I think is going to be the worst defense.
I think Minnesota falls off this year.
They’re an old team that injuries are already starting to have an effect on and they have a tough schedule.

I agree
I’m biased because I can’t stand Favre, but it’s asking a lot for him to repeat the unbelievable season he had last year. Then you have the WR injuries. Plus who knows about this whole Favre/Childress feud. It will be tested if they struggle out of the gate.
In one of my FF drafts I was picking 3rd and expected to take MJD since AP has mostly been picked 2nd. Well, the 2 guy picked Ray Rice. I still chose AP but am thinking I made the wrong choice! MJD is probably the better pick.
MJD has big injury questions
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.
I had the 2 in my non-LSB draft.
Almost did the same. I still like Peterson a lot more than MJD, but I trust Rice to stay more healthy this year. Plus he’s got good playoff matchups and I wanted to name my team “Of Rice and Men”
If Brad Pitt is playing Beane who do you want playing you?
JD: Eddie Guardado.
Witty name
I’m just worried, besides the fumbling and possibly injury bug, that AP will be overshadowed by Favre. Seems like Favre was chucking it 40-50 times a game last year. Of course, that makes it all the more amazing that AP was still able to get good fantasy points. That makes me feel better you agree with AP. I second guess myself way too much on these FF drafts!
GB may very well be a SB team this year

Jets...
overrated or supremely overrated?
I’m worried about the Cowboys o-line. A lot of talent at most positions but o-line is not one of those position.
I think just overrrated.
Some great pieces, but how did everybody forget that Sanchez isn’t actually a good QB?
I’m only worried about the OLine until it gets healthy, which should be by Week 2 or maybe 3. They’re not going one of the Top 5 OL in the NFL, but they should be serviceable enough with the talent of the skill positions and the mobility of Romo. The depth in the secondary concerns me, but top 3 CB’s should be pretty good.

Their GM sounds like an extra from Hee Haw.
That reference probably dates me a bit.
The DB's...
but yeah, didn’t realize they won 6 games last year so scratch my previous comment about the Bills.
If Sanchez can be the game manager he was in the playoffs...
they will be ok. But he’s looked shaky in preseason and parts of last year. LT needs to be as good as Jones was for them last year. Reavis needs to shake off the rust quick. But I agree, they play in a difficult division. Plus every team will be gunning for them.
He's going to need to be better than that.
Tougher schedule plus Miami will be better. I’m not sure any of the elite teams are in the AFC East, but I’m fairly certain 3 of the second ‘very good’ tier teams are there.
If Brad Pitt is playing Beane who do you want playing you?
JD: Eddie Guardado.
Yeah, I think I like Miami better than the Jets
Funny that Miami swept them last year. I’m a Sparano fan, and I’d love to see Henne take off. We’ll see how Marshall does. Apparently he had a case of the dropsies in the preseason.
It's a matchup thing, I think. Something like this:
NYJ > NE > MIA > NYJ
If Brad Pitt is playing Beane who do you want playing you?
JD: Eddie Guardado.
If Sanchez sucks, I think the emergence of NE's TEs will put them over NYJ.
And maybe Miami over NYJ.
I wouldn't go that far
but as a Raiders fan, this is the most excited about a season I’ve been in a long time. Just dumping JaMarcus will improve the team by a few games, and the draft actually made some sense this time.
I could see this being a lot like the 2009 Rangers. Improved, maybe able to get a break here and there to finish 8-8… then next year, “es tine.”
I was being sarcastic...
being a Raiders fan is so depressing. They may be better, but I still expect nothing more than a 6-10 year.
"The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance."-Socrates
We will really see...
if Jason Campbell is really worth a damn. I felt bad for him in Wash from all the OC turnover each year.
The AFC West
is about as bad as the AL West in baseball. In any other division, KC, Denver, and Oakland would be lucky to win 5 games.
Go Rice Owls!
We don't know if he'll get the red zone touches though.
Actually, we’re fairly certain he won’t.

I vow to be terrible at this.

you think you know so much, then you overthink some picks and talk yourself into upsets and end up with a shitty record!

And the confidence points make it really different. You’re not looking for teams that you think are guaranteed to win as much as you are looking for bad lines.

Adam_Schefter Miles Austin’s new six-year, $54 million deal in Dallas will make him one of the league’s five highest paid WRs
2 of the __ highest paid WR
Yet Jerry Jones is a cheapskate who doesn’t really invest that much money in the team.
If Brad Pitt is playing Beane who do you want playing you?
JD: Eddie Guardado.
Who cares
Not trying to be a dick but you replace Austin with Hurd and it would be the same. Hell Hurd is probably better since he’s more black LOL.
Remember how people actually cared about TO leaving? LOL. None of that stuff matter. Every position the players are interchangeable, but especially say, OL, DL, and WR. There’s little physical difference between any NFL OL, DL, or WR. Or pretty much any other position lol. Maybe there’s a little difference at QB.
Shit dude, Johnson and Holley are the most talented WRs on the roster!
Tell me you’re joking.
My point was more at Adam
for insisting that Jerry Jones is a bad owner.
WR matters. Not as much as QB or OT or DE/OLB, but it still matters. TO leaving didn’t matter because his level of play fell so sharply in his last year here. The Cowboys played games without Austin last year and didn’t look as good offensively. I like Ogletree, but having good backups isn’t proof that a position is overrated.
You really think the only difference between good players and bad players is there physical abilities?

How the biased NBC announcers all rush to defend the blown replay call on that clearly complete vikes catch. “Well you know, they dont want to overrule the call on the field blah blah”. Never mind it was wrong.
I also love how they reviewed it, and still got it blatantly wrong. You know, thank goodness we have review to get things right, thats why we need more of it in baseball.

Yeah, no shit!
I didn’t have time to really think about all 16 matchups in terms of confidence before I left for work, so I put it at freakin 15 since I thought Favre’s rust and lack of WRs would hurt them. You can just second-guess yourself to death with these picks.
It’s funny, my friend had Minny at +4.5. He was cursing Longwell on that missed PAT! That’s why you should never bet kids!

Eh, the way I see it...
The underdog should have to come within the point spread (even if it’s a “push”)
The favorite should have to win by more than the spread.
