IF Pujols available...

I know that it is likely he will return to St. Louis if they can come up with the cash, but here is what I think would be a reasonable Rangers overture. 6 years, $180 million. Basically use the money budgeted (and advanced from TV deal) for Cliff Lee and give it to Albert. 2012, $35 mil; 2013, $33 mil; 2014, $31 mil; 2015, $29 mil; 2016, $27 mil and 2017, $25 million. It wouldn't hamstring the finances of the team later in the contract, leaving you some flexibility if there is mutual interest to stay. Thoughts... and please remember this is IF he is available, not a debate of if we should sign him.

...and he is going to get it.

Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

I don't think he gets 10

with the Yankees and Red Sox out of the bidding

If he's willing to sign for 6/$180 he'll be staying in St. Louis

yes

From what I read, the most likely obstacle to a deal in STL will be total years, not average salary.

Jason Werth got 7. Albert will get at least 8.

STL really really shit themselves by not being more aggressive with an extension offer last winter. Since then, the contracts for Howard, Werth, and Crawford have been given huge money.

In the highly unlikely scenario that Pujols is available

You pay him whatever the hell he wants to play here.

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

If Pujols signs here, the child my wife currently bears will be named Albert.

Male OR female.

It goes deeper. People take out their frustrations with Josey on their real-life acquaintances, which propagates forward, and before you know it you’ve got more marriages in an easily-smashable state.

God, imagine if Boras was his agent.

MY GOD HE’S ONLY 31. He could seriously get 10 years, $300 million.

Don't listen to me. I'm a fucking moron.

I doubt 10.

Though A-Rod did sign a 10 year deal as a 32 y/o, so what do I know.

If Brad Pitt is playing Beane who do you want playing you?
JD: Eddie Guardado.

It'll cost more.

He’ll ask for, and get, basically what ARod signed for.

$250MM minimum.

I say offer him 10 years

and heavily insure the contract. If he manages to stay healthy he’d likely be worth it.
