josh lewin says thank you

Wow-- it's like reading your own obituary while still alive!

Guys/gals, I sure appreciate the kind words, but more than anything, I just wanted to echo those of you insisting on giving Johnny Rhads a fair chance.  It took me YEARS to win some of you guys over (and I never did win some of you over; of that I'm well aware!).. but I'm confident John will be very easy on the ears, and a wonderful torchbearer for the greatness that is Ranger baseball.  He'll win you over a lot quicker than I did, I'm sure. Please: Be gentle, and be kind, or at the very least open-minded. All you can ask of anyone is their best effort, and I'm sure you'll get that every night from JR :)

I've been asked a lot these last couple months whether some of the misinformation and vitriol out there bothers me? Sure... I'm human. But I've never gone wrong by staying on the high road, and I have no intention of leaving it, no matter how lonely it may be.  Let's just say I'm very happy to be taking a year off from play-by-play, getting reacquainted with my kids, and jousting at a new windmill -- this talkradio thing's a lot harder than it looks!

Anyway, my warmest thanks to all of you who have said and written such nice things... I will miss TAG and the free cookies and the best seat in the house and the honor of doing that post-game summary of the many exciting wins.  Ranger baseball moves forward, and I'll be watching and rooting right along with y'all...

All good things, and GO RANGERS--

- Josh

Josh was great. I hope the best for him and Rhadigan.

The saddest thing about the playoff run was not getting to hear and see you

experience the same ups and downs that we all had in those glorious three weeks. I hope you are still going to be a part of the Fox’s national broadcast team. Thanks again, Josh.

I'm putting together this video of every BALLGAME!

From every Ranger win last year….I’m starting to question whether I have the patience and focus to finish it.

I know it will be cool when I finally do though.

I am willing to give Rhadigan a chance.

But he has some big shoes to fill, and we are all going to be comparing him to you for a long time. That may not be fair to him, but that is just the way it is. You really made the broadcasts enjoyable, and it is going to be hard to let go. I think we have made it through the denial phase, but we may be stuck in the anger phase for a while. This is the Angrydome™ after all. Thanks for stopping by, Josh. Don’t be a stranger.

I'm still saying "Ballgame!" after every Ranger win in honor of Josh Lewin.

I’ll miss the heck out of obscure pop-culture references, the awkward silences that you and TAG would have some times (those made Ranger baseball broadcasts great), you goading TAG into a story about his playing days, you being genuinely excited about Cruz’s walk off sac-fly, etc. I’m sure Rhads will do a great job, but he has some large shoes to fill.

You should definitely still tweet “Ballgame!” after every Ranger win.

Man, it’s going to be weird seeing Rhads and TAG in the booth on Opening Day.

Admit it

deep down you want to see Josh sneak up during a Rangers broadcast and hit Rhadigan with a folded chair, then rip off his shirt to reveal an Angels Jersey, while he picks up the mic and runs smack at TAG. Much more entertaining than the high road.

replace Rhads with Victor Rojas

and instead of revealing an Angels jersey, Lewin burns one.

And instead of running smack at TAG, Lewin drops more Seinfeld references in 30 seconds than he normally does in an entire season, afterwards telling Evan Grant he can “suck it.”

There… rewrites are FUN.

You can't go! All the plants are gonna die!

(name the movie).

I actually said that to an ex when she told me she was moving out. I thought it would be cute and endearing. She disagreed. Also one plant in fact has died. The flower pot still sits on my desk. A grim reminder of the need for water.

I’ll think of Josh every time my son bellows “Ballgame” after a Rangers win. Josh got him started when he first started watching the games with me and I doubt he will ever quit. You’re the best, Josh, and I’m going to sorely miss you calling the games.

My favorite memory of you will always be this: You were calling a game, on the road I think. The guy at bat, can’t remember his name, was born in Walla Walla, Washington. The guy just launches one over the left field wall, and your home run call was: “…and that ball was OVER the Walla Walla!!!”

I must have rewound and re-watched that a hundred times.
