Per Jon Paul Morosi, Evan Grant, and others on Twitter, the Boston Red Sox have claimed Max Ramirez off of waivers from the Texas Rangers.
Given Boston's interest in Ramirez before the season, this isn't surprising, and I'm a little surprised the Rangers didn't try to (or weren't able to) work out a deal with Boston in exchange for Ramirez, so they could get something in return.
Boston supposedly was more interested in him as a DH/1B type than as a catcher, so it will be interesting to see how they use him this spring. If he's a catcher, he will, of course, be competing with another former Ranger catching prospect, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who is now with the Red Sox.
My guess is that Boston tries to run him through waivers in late March, in the hopes of outrighting him and giving him another season at AAA to see if his bat rebounds.
