Around SBN: 7 Important Questions About The Heat Vs. Celtics Series

Manchester-united-vs-liverpool

New EPL thread- big match this weekend between Liverpool and Manchester United. Stevie G may be back in the starting lineup. Will Vidic start? If so, will he get sent off again?

Also on this weekend's slate: City vs. Villa, Chelsea vs. Everton, and BVB vs. Werder Bremen.

Liverpool will win this.

No anti-jinx. United have looked off the pace recently.

I'm feeling a win this weekend too

Thankfully, there's no way I'll get up to watch it live.

6:45am kickoffs for big matches are so annoying.

Lucky to draw.

Can count on one hand the number of decent scoring opportunities United created. They desperately need the Anderson-Cleverley partnership to be rekindled.

Part 2's out now.

LINK – the Guardian podcast also discusses all this today, too.

When Hicks bought Liverpool I wondered why any intelligent bidness man would do that. After reading this long piece on Henry it doesn’t dissuade my suspicion that another American bidnessman again didn’t know what he was getting into when he made the purchase.

This is interesting.

Liverpool’s managing director advocates breaking the current PL TV structure to proportionally distribute foreign revenue.

United and Chelsea immediately say no.

Seems a stupid thing to say by Ayre. One of the main reasons that La Liga is so broken is because of the unbalanced TV revenue structure…and he wants to implement that in England even when it’s obvious that United (not Liverpool) would be reap the biggest benefits of that.

Apparently my office has a “team-building exercise” scheduled for Friday.

So do I. Except mine’s probably gonna be a lot more fun, and doesn’t involve my co-workers. The fun begins Thursday night!

LeBron?

Yeah, the new owners signed a deal with him last year, where he agreed to wear LFC gear in public and help market the club’s brand. In return, they gave him a small stake in the club- around 1-2%. If it helps raise more cash for the team, I’m all for it.

Goin to FC Dallas game tonight. Gotta see what this @BrekShea kid is all about before he goes to the bundesliga. Who else is goin?

Also, I expected him to attract some European clubs but I’ve been seeing Liverpool, City and United linked. Don’t think he’s ready for all that. Bundesliga makes sense though.

Shea

I read over the weekend that Liverpool sent a scout to the last US match to watch Shea. I agree, though, that he’s probably not ready for that big a step up yet.

Yaya doesn't work as a DM, or even as a deep CM.

He doesn’t care, or have an impact on the game. I’m not sure what to do with him going forward, he has to produce more if he’s not goin to play back, but he’s to good just to leave on the bench.

Balo and Milner have to start for me against united.

I have been listening to tons of dubstep lately.

What’s wrong with me? My guess is nostalgia for my HS days filled lstening to Gary Numan, Flock of Seagulls, The Cars, Depeche Mode, Human League, Soft Cell, Eurythmics, Spandau Ballet, Adam Ant … and so on. Like the soundtrack of an old Jon Cryer movie. Pls tell me that’s all it is. Because I am NOT going to go out and buy a mirror ball and hang it over my computer. I hope not anyway.

I enjoyed this goal more than both Yaya goals in Wembley in May.

I thought City were done. I was off watching with a couple friends, one an arsenal fan. I haven’t celebrated a goal like that since Donavon in south Africa. Great stuff.

The Genius of Silva to let it go thru to Kun was brilliant. Even redirected it right to him.

Getting 3 at Marseille to go top of the group… all is forgiven.

by sprite on Oct 19, 2011 4:09 PM CDT up reply actions

I mean

they don’t have a good team. It seems silly to expect a traditional Arsenal performance out of this lineup.

by Brett Perryman on Oct 19, 2011 5:51 PM CDT up reply actions

Sahin's absence is more devastating than first thought

Gundogan was brought in as Sahin’s replacement but he’s even more behind this curve than expected. Just goes to show how integral a solid defensive mid can be. Arsenal after Vieira, ManU after Keane, Rovers after Savage (heh)

That, plus Dortmund’s offense isn’t clicking with Kagawa and Barrios both performing well below last year’s standards.

Gotze will not be on the market this summer, but will probably be tempted away as there will be no silverware this season it seems.

Just so disappointing that their performance both in Europe and domestic has been more of the sub-par variety. I don’t think it’s anything to freak out about, but they will start bleeding players as their financial woes aren’t completely cleared up and they can’t compete with the big clubs anyway. Would’ve been nice to have seen last year’s squad take on Europe

What's the rumpus?

by Hypo-Luxa on Oct 20, 2011 8:27 AM CDT up reply actions

Sahin was more of a deep-lying playmaker than DM.

Those are even more irreplaceable…Liverpool still haven’t really gotten over the loss of Alonso.

Barrios has been injured for a while, hasn’t he?

5-0 today

maybe that gets them going.

Lille’s academy director Jean-Michel Vandamme has claimed Chelsea are paying most attention to ÂŁ40 million-rated youngster Eden Hazard.
“Eden is certainly willing to stay at Lille at least until next summer.” Vandamme was quoted as saying in the Daily Mail. "The buyer will have to come up with a lot of money – let’s say he is not currently to go for less than ÂŁ40 million.

“Chelsea has been following him the closest. The Spaniards have not manifested themselves yet, but I think they are playing it smart and will call when they know they have to – I’m talking about Real Madrid, but also about Barcelona.”

Hazard’s agent has already revealed that Arsenal failed in their attempt to sign the playmaker during the summer transfer window.

Manchester vs. Tevez

Interesting idea

Bookmakers Betfair, club sponsors of Manchester United, will be deploying a giant rubbish ‘Recycling Tevez’ skips outside Old Trafford on Sunday – one half blue and one half red – for fans to dump their replica shirts with his name on in exchange for brand new ones.

The guy who does the Young Guns blog on Brek Shea:

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/talent-scout-brek-shea-fc-dallas-2374012.html

But with Shea, who has had opportunities to head to Europe before, there looks to be tangible end product.

At six foot three inches tall, he began his career in defence, playing all over the back four, before being enticed into increasingly attacking berths. The Texan-born youngster now finds himself as a left winger, and despite occasional moves forward and back, its a role that best displays his array of talents.

The most noticeable of which is Shea’s intelligence and instinct in the final third. He has a natural ability of drifting across his defending full back and into space between centre backs when without the ball, then with it, he has some neat foot work, balance, poise and can shift weight easily between legs to get himself out of trouble.

Shea is very much a modern winger, with a knack of cutting inside and following up shots, meaning a healthy goal tally from midfield. Other traits such as high speed dribbling, changing direction at pace and shooting from short and long range he does well, but its the old fashioned wing work that he must improve.

I was so scared of getting overwhelmed with speed and aggression. Instead ManU just sorta loped along out there. Travel sore? The return leg should be really interesting – ManU will be seeking scalps.

I slept in, too. Just now finished watching the download.

I got up to 6-1 City on the scoreboard and turned on the QPR stream just in time to see two Chelsea dudes ejaculated from the match. Drogba, you’re a true dog. Lampard put in a warrior’s shift – respek. I think as long as City’s GD remains > than their points total they can win the league. heh

interesting stat from the game - total passes, City - 480, ManU - 460

Pretty even considering ManU was down a man the last 43 mins. Mancini would say this stat reflects “United’s strong mentality – ees fantasteek” while Fergie would say this stat reflects the “suicidal defending” that led to the GA total skyrocketing.

And couldn’t believe how late the last 3 goals came, In my mind it was the past 10-15 minutes of the game, BUT it was the last 3 minutes! United quit… At HOME… Flat out quit.
