ESPN NY: Rangers To Pursue Sabathia
An anonymous "baseball source" claims that the Rangers will throw a "boatload of money" at Sabathia if he opts out of his contract.

Sounds like pulling a Cashman on Cashman
drive the price up as high as you can because you know the Yanks cannot get beat in this auction.
My first thought
This was my first thought: someone (maybe someone with the last name “Sabathia”?) is getting the bidding going early for C.C. I don’t think there’s any way that he could be lured away from NY, but he still wants to get paid like he might consider leaving. I agree that the Yankees can’t lose him and I think everyone involved in that fiscal triangle (C.C., his agent, and Brian Cashman) all know it.

Saw this.
I think it’s just smoke the drive up the price. I don’t think they want to pay a guy that old that much, plus I’m not sure they could recruit him away from NY anyways.

Agree
I definitely think someone is starting the bidding early to loosen up Cashman’s check-writing hand. I could see him leaving NY for, say, the Dodgers, but that’s not happening. By all accounts he and his family love NY and I can’t see them trading that in for anything less than a franchise-crippling contract in L.A., and since that’s not going to happen, he’ll re-up with the Yankees but not before they can make Cashman a little nervous.

It sounds like an agent
wants to worry the Yankees so CC can make more money. I don’t think the Rangers would go after him with nearly the amount of money he wants.
