I mean, I won’t claim never to have called Ichiro that in the back of my head a few times when he was doing super-annoying things to us. I’m not exactly mister politically correct. But it’s not like she has any actual sports-hate for Koji and Yoshi or any reason to, that just appears to be her default setting. And my Dad just rolls right along with it and does it too, which is what really bugs me.
He used to be classier than that. He raised me classier than that.
I’ve debated whether to call them on it or not. I know they’ll just get insulted and weird if I do. And I don’t really wanna lose talking baseball with my Dad – watching the playoffs together used to be an October tradition for us, and even if we’re just down to phonecalls and me wincing at his terrible opinions I still enjoy it. But I also kinda feel obligated to stand up for our guys. Koji and Yoshi are still awesome, and they deserve better.

We didn’t want Napoli, the Angels salary dumped him on us (:S). We’d already filled C and backup C with Arencibia and Molina (who we wanted to reach type-B) with the year planned as a development year, and had 1B/DH split between Lind/Encarnacion (also an outside shot to get type-B) and Rivera. All we could offer Napoli was DH work, and he indicated he didn’t want to be a fulltime DH.
On the other hand, our bullpen was bare, and you guys i’m sure know the jays hard-on for compensation picks, so Francisco was a perfect option for the Jays plans. We’ve ended up with a compensation pick from Molina, Arencibia a bit more developed behind the plate, Encarnacion settling into DH at cents on the dollar and Francisco, who we might keep or get a comp. pick for. The jays got what we wanted from the trade, meager though that might be in many peoples opinions, it’s just you got a bargain deal when Napoli went hulk on you.
I think it says something about the buy-in from fans in Toronto to the whole youth plan, but generally when other fans bring up Napoli, the almost universal response is “Hey, we got our comp. picks, best of luck to him”.
The Texas Rangers are going BACK to the WORLD SERIES. Think about this. Say it out loud.

The biggest thing this says to me is that they want to keep this team together for awile.
Being able to resign our stars is huge.
You have to be careful with that.
They don’t want to keep this team together for too long because all the players will start declining. The money needs to be spent smartly and they need to make tough decisions on letting some of the players go to free agency.

I am not a doctor
GF is but I am not. But I am a 3-4 day a week soccer player and groins and lower hammy injuries I can tell you heal pretty quick with a solid week of off time. If it was an upper hammy or quad you are fucked but I bet with the doctors and trainers they have 5 days will be enough.
At least I get to see the Rangers when they play the Twins now.

Fun story, when Mizzou built a new basketball arena about 7 years ago, the Waltons gave the school a bunch of money to build it and they named it after Walton;s daughter (who went to USC)
And then it came out that the daughter paid her way through school and cheated so they had to take her name off the building and that’s why it’s called Mizzou Arena instead of Paige Sports Arena.

Well new business building, they are going to tear down the part engineering building that extends down
and extend library lawn all the way to the street where they have the walk. That same street won’t be a street anymore. That whole corner of buildings by the ROTC place are also being redone. THe HES building is getting redone, new athletic fields and facilities including an indoor tennis facility. I’m missing some things too.

Well, in what I think was Franco’s first at-bat, in a deathly quiet stadium (must not have been many opposing fans), he hits a double. I think he might’ve driven in a run.
I go nuts. I stand up, and start chanting, “Juuuuuulioooooooo,” as if I were back at Arlington Stadium. The Japanese family that brought me is horrified; they keep pulling my shirt to try to get me to sit and be quiet.
But then Julio tips his batting helmet toward where I’m standing, and looks as if he’s laughing, and all of a sudden the family wants me to cheer for him every time he’s up, because they think I know him personally.

The best thing about this run
is that I think it cements my boys as lifelong Texas Rangers fans. We had a lot of fun tonight.

The thing is, Hamilton seems more secure at home, in some ways — so I wonder if it’d be best if he can get himself into the mindset of being a family man and not trying to go out on the road for business, or whatever… anyhow, this is speculation for another time, probably.

Also... oc was on the video board tonight.
One of the grounds crew was a plant and a dancer. After the 6th inning he came out with a broom to sweep dirt then started doing some kick ass dancing.
After him they put oc up on the board (or someone who look a lot like him) with a black Rangers cap dancing in the stands.

Just got back from my friend's house
Watched Game 6. Hell of a way to head on to the World Series. I’m happy for the whole team, but especially so for Cruz, who redeemed a bit of a down year with a monster ALCS; Beltre and Napoli, for proving their critics wrong, and for Michael Young, who was just huge tonight. 4 more wins. Wednesday night is gonna be awesome.

That was one crazy game to be at. Watching confetti rain down at RBiA as a stage is hastily constructed on the field is a surreal experience, even when you knew for six innings that it was going to happen. I’ve always been proud to be a Ranger fan, but now even more so. Here’s to four more wins.

Drove right by that building tonight on the way back home wondering if they’d have something up but I didn’t see any lights. During the OU/UT game, the entire face of the new hotel downtown was lit up in scrolling team colors. Pretty amazing, I was hoping they’d do that for the Rangers but the hotel pricks there did not. I think probably the thing that has me most excited...
…the Rangers just won the ALCS in six games with the starting pitching—the thing most people will tell you is the most crucial part of a playoff team—performing well BELOW expectations.
If they can shore up that one thing, and keep everything else running just the way it is, this team becomes an unstoppable juggernaut.

overlooked stat of the night
The Rangers left 11 on base and still scored 15. Loved that the 3rd inning didn’t involve a home run. Good sign from the bats. I hope it carries over to the World Series!!
