I have noticed a proliferation of "screw it, I hope the ratings are awful and no team east of Chattanooga ever
wins the World Series playoff game game inning breathes again" type comments here. While I understand the hatred of teams such as the Red Sox, Yankees, and yes, even my adopted red-headed stepchildren Phillies... I don't understand the desire for ratings to be awful in order to down the "media giants" of New York, Bristol, and Atlanta.
The success of any sport is not guaranteed. The NFL was not always the media darling it is today... nothing is certain. Revel in the success of the game, and root for your Rangers in support.
We, sisters and brothers of LSB, are fans of a team based in the DFW media market - a top five media market by most standards. We have an Eleventy Billion dollar regional marketing contract that further validates this perception (at least in one corporation's mind). We will most likely broach the top third of MLB payroll amounts in the next few years, depending on what happens with CJ, Josh, Ian, Elvis, etc... or even longshots such as Albert P. or the regal Fielder.
We are not the Marlins. We are not the Rays. We are not the Royals, Pirates, or even the Orioles. We are the Rangers - home of the media juggernaut Cowboys, world champion Mavericks, and ready-for-a-Hicksenema Stars.
It is time we stop bitching and moaning about a lack of attention from the media and an excess for the Cowboys, and instead focus on the things we know:
This team that we all love is on the precipice of becoming an annual powerhouse. A team that is worthy of the spotlight and its top 5 media market billing.
You earn that. You kick the cumulative Yankees/Red Sox asses every year and don't go away. You don't whine, complain, bitch, or moan.
You step on their throats in October and bring home the crown.
