Why?
Valencia had a really good half year in 2010 and played an important role in getting the Twins to the playoffs. Why does his horrible 2011 matter?
Someone had a discussion a few weeks ago about why people seem to put a heavy weight on playing most or all of the season for ROY candidates. They asked why ROY consideration has to be limited to the best rookies who played the majority of the year. Why isn’t it just the best rookies or the most impressive rookies?
In thinking about that for a little while I decided I’d rather give it to the player who was most impressive. I’d consider giving AL ROY honors to Brett Lawrie this year. He only played ~40 games but he was incredibly impressive in that limited time. You could have also given it to Strasburg in 2010. I think Buster Posey was a defensible choice but Strasburg was far and away the most impressive rookie in the NL. I also think this would help limit the Angel Berroa/Chris Coghlan type winners who win because their aren’t many other good choices.
I think he meant the one that said we'd win the world series in 2011.

I'm not sure.
My WS comment was the 4th one down. And my Valencia comment was the 5th thread down.
The WS comment gives me a sad too.
It was the WS comment
I’m sorry that I can’t count… That gives me a sad too.

I love that it has my Wendy's chili story.
It fascinates me how the first couple of seconds you can see it go spurt spurt against the back wall and then the pressure equalizes or something and it comes in smoother. - Closure GT on Aug 22, 2011
CJ finishes 6th in Cy Young voting.
Verlander was unanimous.
Weaver 2nd, Shields 3rd, CC 4th, Valverde 5th(!!!), CJ 6th, Haren 7th.

Valverde got a 2nd place vote
Which shows how uninformed/biased these BBWAA voters are. People are still in love with that save statistic. I think they should lump holds/saves into one category and see what that does to people’s arguments.
BTW – Congrats to CJ. He was around where he should be in this voting and he had a hell of a season. Don’t go to Anaheim.
I thought he should have finished higher than James Shields personally.

I also thought CC should have been the clear #2 on this list.

This one is all about park factors and opponent too
I think they both have a fair case for #2 depending on how you feel about park factors/opponent. I think Jered Weaver had a defensible case. Huge advantage in baserunners and runs allowed. They both had stellar seasons and deserve to be at the top of the list.
I don't see the argument for Shields over Wilson
If you favor results, which I think end of the year awards should, I don’t see how you favor CJ. You have to strongly believe in park factors to give CJ the edge. Shields has all the results driven categories locked down and he has a huge advantage in innings pitched. The IP alone are reason for me to give the edge to Shields.
