The deadline for adding minor leaguers to the 40 man major league roster, for the purpose of keeping them from being eligible to be selected in the Rule 5 Draft, is tonight at 11 p.m. Central.

We talked about the 40 man roster situation in September, which you can read here.  The situation is basically the same as it was then, except that I said in that article that Johan Yan is a minor league free agent, and he is, in fact, under team control through 2012.

My guess right now is that four players are added to the 40 man roster.  Martin Perez and Neil Ramirez are slam-dunks...they will be added.  I think that two of the players on "the bubble" will be added -- Roman Mendez and Matt West, both live-armed pitchers who seem to profile as relievers (although Mendez is still working as a starter).  West, in particular, could make an appearance in Texas next year in the bullpen.
