This Day in LSB History

LONDON, ENGLAND - NOVEMBER 24: Andrew Strauss, England cricket captain, poses by a zebra in front of the Lords pavillion on the day the ECB announced Investec as the new title sponsor of Test Match cricket at Lord's Cricket Ground on November 24, 2011 in London, England. Four years ago today, Z was covering the blog in my absence, and did a post about the pros and cons of trading for Johan Santana, who was being shopped by the Minnesota Twins and who the Rangers reportedly had interest in.

And there was much discussion in the comments about it (almost 100 posts, which was a lot for back then).

funny reading these comments..

ironic seeing how everyone was so high on some of our top prospects that didn’t pan out and how high they were on Santana, Mauer and Morneau, who all were very successful players at the time.

Every time I read one of these old posts...

And see things talking about how good Hurley, Volquez and BMac will be… (and Salty for that matter)

It reminds me that prospects don’t work out a lot.

Or… to steal from Parks… Prospects Break Your Heart.

I don't remember that one

I do remember one that said Brett Gardner is big; we are little.

That was back when he first showed up, pretending to be a lawyer, picking fights and calling everybody idiots.

As opposed to after he’d been here a while, when he was studying to be a lawyer, picking fights, and calling everybody idiots.

Scanning those comments...

I saw Ed Coffin on there. That was a cool dude.

And only one GIF, if you can imagine.

Desperate is what comes to mind when I think about four years ago.

Desperate for pitching back then makes the current situation so much sweeter.

Fun with prospects

There’s a lot of names in there that would be easy to give up for Santana in hindsight (Hurley, BMac).

But Kinsler by himself has been worth more than Santana. Can cut both ways.
