Hazard: "I want to play for Real Madrid and I will not listen to offers from any other team." via El Confidencial

Don't know how reliable it is as papers have fabricated quotes before but... I haz sad.

International's of interest- France/USA on Friday, Spain/England on Saturday, Brazil/Egypt on Monday might be fun and USA/Slovenia, France/Belgium on Tuesday.

Zizou’s wrapped his hairy arms around him. Was probably priced out of Arsenal’s league anyway.

France vs. USA should be fun, England vs. Spain will be a bloodbath.

M'Vila

FWIW

Yann M’Vila is likely to join Arsenal or Real Madrid next year, according to his Rennes team-mate and friend Kader Mangane.

M’Vila was the subject of four bids “of around €30 million [£26m]” from Champions League clubs including Arsenal during last summer, according to Rennes.

Mangane believes it is inevitable that the highly coveted defensive midfielder will be sold by the Ligue 1 club in the next 12 months.

"There has been no decision taken so far," Mangane told Goal.com of M’Vila’s future. "He might go to England but he also likes the Spanish league. I don’t think he will leave in January but I think he will join Real Madrid or Arsenal next summer.

http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2011/11/08/2747261/yann-mvila-is-likely-to-join-arsenal-or-real-madrid-next

Seems like that price is above what Arsene would want to pay.

by jf55510 on Nov 8, 2011 6:56 PM CST up reply actions

Do Arsenal really need M'Vila?

Well, I mean he’d probably add a lot over what’s currently there, but it seems like Frimpong and Coquelin could be ready by the time M’Vila is made properly available on the market, and it seems like the 20+ mil it would cost could be better used…although I suppose in that case Arsene wouldn’t use most of that sum anyway.

At first it didn’t seem like Real would be a good fit – but Xabi turns 30 in a couple of weeks, Gago and Diarra are both pretty much out and Khedira could just be sold if they wanted to do so.

Can you blame them?

No Wilshere, no Rooney, no Ashley Young and a defensive partnership of Jagielka/Lescott against Spain. I didn’t think the scoreline would be abysmal but I figured they’d get played off the park. Instead, they put in an OK performance (Spain were better, but that’s pretty much always going to be the case).

That's to be expected, I guess

Still, I thought they played about as well as one could hope, given the circumstances. Steal a goal on a set piece, focus on solid, well-organized defense, and get the ball out to Walcott whenever possible and allow him to motor up the touchline and get as pick up as much real estate as possible. I thought Scott Parker was the best player on the English side of the pitch. He kept Xavi and Iniesta pretty quiet. Pretty entertaining match, all-in-all.

Freaky

I went to look up Pelosi on Football Manager last night, just to see how good he is, and he was already on Liverpool’s U-19 team. The game came out almost three weeks ago, and there haven’t been any database changes yet. Guess the signing was already a done deal.

In Shea’s case, Klinsmann says, “I called Arsene Wenger and set this thing up. A player like Brek has tremendous potential, but it’s a raw talent. He needs a lot of guidance.”

Klinsmann played for Wenger at AS Monaco, “and he’s a coach that sees all those elements that a young player needs to develop.”

I love me some Shea, but where would be play on Arsenal? I really can’t see him starting over Walcott and Gervinho, unless they are planning for a Walcott exit over the summer. Thus, considering his talent, as a US fan, I don’t want him anywhere near the bench of a team. I’d rather him get playing time in the MLS than bench time in the EPL.

Nor is it just about the media. It is also about those that should know better. The president of the Portuguese Football Federation, Gilberto Madaíl, who also attending the event, complained that he could not understand how Carlos Queiroz could have voted for Messi for the Balón d’Or. He made a surprisingly — or not so surprisingly considering the difficult relationship they had — bitter attack on his former coach. And there in a nutshell was the problem.

Because Queiroz was Portuguese coach he had to vote for a Portuguese player? Even though while he actually was Portugal’s coach he was not allowed to — precisely to try to prevent political voting. And if he dared not to vote for Ronaldo and instead chose Messi he deserves a public reprimand? Because he chose someone who is not Portuguese, the president of the football federation feels entitled to try to align the country against him? Because the relationship is difficult the president feels justified in doing so — on this issue? Apparently so.

How could Queiroz not vote for Ronaldo? Well, perhaps he didn’t think it was a vote-for-your-countryman-competition. Perhaps he simply thought that he’d been asked to vote for who he considered the best player in the world over the previous year, without prejudice and without favoritism. No big deal: just a question with a simple answer: who do you reckon was the best? Perhaps he thought that because that is exactly what he had been asked to do. In a year in which Messi won the league and the Champions League, scoring in the final and finishing as top scorer in the competition, Queiroz thought that, you know, maybe Messi was the best. It’s not really that hard to understand, is it?

Carlos Queiroz thought he was being asked to make an honest footballing judgment and so he did. He should have known better.

Asked if he thought there was racism on the pitch, the FIFA president told CNN World Sport: "I would deny it. There is no racism, there is maybe one of the players towards another, he has a word or a gesture which is not the correct one, but also the one who is affected by that.

“He should say that this is a game. We are in a game, and at the end of the game, we shake hands, and this can happen, because we have worked so hard against racism and discrimination.

“I think the whole world is aware of the efforts we are making against racism and discrimination. And on the field of play sometimes you say something that is not very correct, but then at the end of the game, the game is over and you have the next game where you can behave better.”

i tell the truth; i lie a lot

by jonthefon on Nov 19, 2011 6:11 PM CST up reply actions

Carrick.

Does his job well enough, but the problem is that, aside from Scholes, he’s never had a partner that’s been good enough to be the primary playmaker while he does his thing. Therefore, United fans get on him because, again, aside from Scholes, he’s usually the best passer of the ball in whatever midfield partnership he gets flung in to. They expect him to do his deep-lying ballwinner duties as well as be the one who makes incisive passes forward, but that’s not his thing at all.

That United fans are this upset at Tom Cleverley getting injured until the new year is a pretty telling sign of how shit our midfield really is.

by LiamP on Nov 19, 2011 6:28 PM CST up reply actions

Solid analysis

Carrick’s a good player, but he’s sort of an anomaly. A deep lyling midfielder who’s a great passer but not much of a ball winner. Because of his ability to read the game and intercept passes, he can be cast as a defensive mid, even though that’s not really his game. I’ve always been a fan, but I think he’s been at his best when he’s got a ball winner next to him, like Owen Hargreaves circa 2006.

Not mediocre. Right about average

by trza on Nov 20, 2011 10:40 AM CST up reply actions

See, I disagree.

Yes, he’s not a ball-winner in the Mascherano vein, but he reads the game tremendously and breaks down moves with positioning. But, if you put a ball-winner next to him, you don’t have nearly enough creativity going forward (see the Fletcher-Carrick partnership). I maintain that the only really good partner he’s ever had was Scholes.

Finally finished my first season with Krasnodar earlier tonight. CSKA won the league, Anzhi came in second, Zenit third, and us in fourth, which puts us in the Europa League fourth qualifying round next season.

Got a big summer ahead- need to shore up a few roster spots to ensure we’re good enough to make a little noise in Europe…

"Those cocksuckers asking me if I thought we were gonna go up there and try to work his fuckin’ pitch count ‘cause he’s on three fuckin’ days rest…you know what I told those cocksuckers? He pitch ball, ball cross plate, we gonna knock the shit out of it."

THE FIX IS IN
Orbinho
Mike Dean will referee Arsenal v Fulham. Arsenal have won none of the last nine PL games with him as official.

The semi-infamous Wenger L'Equipe interview

http://news.arseblog.com/2011/11/wengers-interview-with-lequipe-full-transcript/

L’Equipe: Did it not feel like things were suddenly slipping away from you, especially during the summer, during the transfer window?

Wenger: The hard thing is the feeling that something is ending. You had a project with guys that you took on at the age of 18 and they leave at the age of 23. That’s not what you dream about. What’s more, on top of the players that left, there were injuries. It’s simple: last season, our midfield was built around Wilshere, Nasri, Diaby and Fabregas. Then we find ourselves without Diaby and Wilshere who are injured for a long time, and without Nasri and Fabregas who have gone to Manchester City and Barça.
L’Equipe: But it looks like you are obliged to rebuild once more. Just like at the start…

Wenger: It’s true, a new cycle is starting. When we left Highbury, I set my sights on a long-term project with a young team. It didn’t produce the results I’d hoped for. Yes, we have to rebuild.

L’Equipe: With you? Will you embark on another long spell?

Wenger: No, as far as I am concerned, we are now talking pretty short term, that’s obvious. But whether it is with me or someone else, that changes nothing. The person that comes in after me will need foundations on which he can obtain success.

L’Equipe: Will you still be here in 15 years?

Wenger: No.

L’Equipe: And next season?

Wenger: We’ll look at things at the end of this one. I still have two years to run on my contract.
L’Equipe: Why are you smiling?

Wenger: I was thinking about a 10 year old kid who might have come to watch Arsenal for the first time with his dad in 1996. I was thinking that he’d now be 25, and he will have known only one chap on the bench. That makes me think I’m the manager of an entire generation.

Going to be fascinating to see who replaces them too.

At least with SAF, he’ll stay on with the club in some role and have some say in who replaces him. Wenger makes it sound like he’s going to make a clean break from Arsenal.

I think the chances of Wenger

staying with Arsenal in some capacity once he’s resigned from coaching are very close to zero. He’s basically said that for as long as I’ve heard him asked about it. It will be someone else’s time and they don’t need him looking over their shoulder, etc.

Makes sense, and that's similar to what SAF has said.

When I say he’ll stay on with the club, I mean in an ambassadorial role like Bobby Charlton. After the selection process ends, I assume SAF will pretty much be completely hands off too.

I really don’t want to think about it right now. I’m just praying it’s not David Moyes.

For me

it’s going to be a little like when you watch a sport as a kid and think everyone’s great and all of the coaches are geniuses, then you grow up and think everyone’s dumb. When those guys retire and I’ve watched another half decade (or whatever it will be) of soccer, I expect to be all jaded.

Blackburn

Right after FM came out with a version for the apple devices I played it several times on all of them. For some reason it was appreciably harder on the ipad than ipod/iphone or the the PC version, with the same series of crazy bad results at the same time every season, etc.

Anyway, one of the games I started on ipad I was in 8th place in November with Blackburn and I was actually sacked. Well:

POS TEAM P GD Pts
19 Blackburn Rovers 12 -11 7

F you, FM ipad version.

First off

the ipad and iphone versions are the same almost as each other, graphics aside.

It’s pretty toned down from the PC version for sure and I remember that there are a few major technical differences from the PC version (it’s been a while since I played on the mobile devices and I can’t remember exactly what they were), but you do still have most of the primary functions, can set all of your formation stuff and have most of the market to buy and sell. You can theoretically get through a full season in a few hours if you play the games on high speed.

It was quite fun to play, except for what I mentioned about the one install seemingly having a predetermined disaster zone. I could easily win the league and champions league with a good team in the first season or two with any of the other interfaces, but for some reason I underachieved every time I played that one.

Goetze

.bq Arsenal will be told it will take at least £30m to prise the youngster away from Germany in January — double Arsenal’s current record outlay for Andrey Arshavin when he moved from Zenit St Petersburg in 2009.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2064443/Arsenal-pay-30m-Mario-Goetze.html?ITO=1490

So, I’m new to support Arsenal and now I am beginning to learn why Arsene doesn’t want to spend on transfers. ~15m for the Russian Elf, bwhahahahahahahahahaha.

So I've Heard

I’ve also heard of the magical Wilshire, but I’ve never seen that either.

Well

I think that the thing we can all learn from that video is that that Barca jersey is awesome. Secondly, can he play CD? (I kid…kinda). My question is can a MF of a fit Wilshere, Ramsey, Song and Arteta get Arsenal into the top four after January?

+ a healthy RVP? Maybe.

Won’t be getting any higher than that though. Another mid is needed.

He was rather good in Euro 08, as well

Seemed like a great signing at the time.
