Kirkjian on Postseason Pitching Workloads
Heavy with Rangers stats and Jon Daniels quotes: ESPN Article
Here is the premise: "We looked at the World Series participants in the past 10 years, and the effect on the pitching staffs the following seasons to those 20 teams. Fourteen of the 20 -- 70 percent -- had an ERA increase the next season. Eight of the 20 -- 40 percent -- had an increase of least a half run, which is substantial."
As far as I am concerned, this is the money quote: "We've talked to other teams that have been through it,'' Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said.
Good info, and I think it shows just how well prepared the Rangers front office is when it comes to sustaining success.

I really hope the Yankees sign Millwood.
Hi, my name is Josey Wales and I'm a douche. Prove me wrong.
Well, they already have Bartolo Colon and Freddy Garcia
Signing Millwood might actually be an improvement over those two guys.
"I also have to say that I was pretty obviously wrong about C.J. Wilson. As recently as the All Star Break, I proclaimed the decision to move him the rotation a failure. That was epicfail of a, well, epic nature" - AJM

I want to see all three of them in the Yankees rotation at some point.

Millwood
He will win 15 games with the Yankees.
I would much prefer them to roll out Ivan Nova, Sergio Mitre, Dustin Moseley, or Bartolo Colon than Kevin Millwood.

Millwood...
isn’t going to win 15 games with anyone ever again.

if the yankees score 7 runs every time out
never say never
What if something happens?!?
What could happen to an Old Fashioned?
You may overrate him greatly
given how lazy he is in offseasons, he might be done

Don't underrate how bad the Orioles were
They scored 3.26 runs per game for Millwood last year.
The Yankees averaged 5.3 runs per game.
Millwood’s average start in 2010 was getting into the 7th inning, giving up less than 4 runs.
You do that for a team that averages 5.3 runs per game and rolls out Soriano and Rivera to pitch the 8th and 9th, and you’ll win your fair share of games.

Some of that makes sense
teams that make the World Series tend to have a lot of things break their way, and lots of career years. Whether its the 2006 Cards, the 2005 White Sox or the 2002 Angels or whoever, a lot of postseason and World Series teams just play a little over their heads.

this was essentially Dave Pinto's take on the article, I think
he said regression probably played more of a part than weariness. For the Rangers, not having Harden and Feldman “atop” the rotation might mitigate this stuff somewhat. Instead, the high variability will be a bit further down the rotation.

Of course
while we were optimistic about Lewis and Wilson, I think the same thing could have been said about Harden and Feldman last year. Folks were particularly giddy about Harden, I believe.

I know I was giddy about Harden...
probably the most disappointed I’ve been in a Rangers FA signing since Chan Ho.
