Obviously the Rangers and MY have had a strong history. MY has proven that he is one of the top players of all time in Ranger history and has been the UNofficial Face of the franchise. He deserves credit and respect.
That being said, his story resembles that of Ex-Dallas Cowboy Greg Ellis. You see, Greg Ellis would consistently worry as Training Camp would role around. The Cowboys were trying to replace him before he was ready to call it a day. Ultimately Greg Ellis forced his way out...
Is MY doing the same thing? He resisted moving from 2nd to SS, then from SS to 3rd...now with 3 years remaining on his contract he is being moved to DH/Utility guy. In a fantasy world, this is PERFECT!!! He can still play nearly everyday, while also giving other guys on the team some breaks and thus keeping everyone fresh through the long marathon of a regular season.
It's also clear that MY sees himself as a better player than perhaps he is willing to admit he is. I don't want to turn this into a Bashing session...let's just say that for all the greatness, there are a few dings in the armor and the team/organization has done its part to improve in the off-season in order to remain a top contender.
Oh and for the 3 remaining years, I believe he will get paid $48,000,000.00 That's not a bad gig...perhaps MY can reconsider and remain a contributing role player on a title chasing team? Then again, perhaps he can't handle the pressure and would rather be the face of some other organization who will be watching the Rangers in the Post-Season?
