About how negatively everyone would react to this?
Sure, there's still a few "THE FACE can do no wrong" holdouts (lets call them the "Facers"), but the massive consensus is not kind to MY. Great players like George Brett, Pete Rose, Paul Molitor, etc... get moved around without all the drama, and every other time he got away with it.
I think the reason the fan reaction is different this time is, everybody but the most rabid Facer knows he sucked at 3rd base. THe phrase "past a diving Michael Young!" got real old last year. The truth is, MY isn't the best 3b, the best ss, or the best 2nd, and probably isn't the best 1b on this team, though I'd be glad to be proven wrong on that.
My Guess is, there is no trade because who wants a guy who's going to throw a hissy fit when he doesn't get the playing time at the position he thinks he deserves. Then Nolan gives MY the "come to Jesus" speech, everybody makes nice again, and the clock goes back to last week. What happens from there is up to MY. He can play his heart out or sit on the pine and sulk. My guess is he'll suck it up and play with all his heart.
Finally a note to MY. You've been a great Ranger, don't let this episode be the final chapter. You can still be DFW royalty years after you retire, but to do that, you need to stop whining and shut up and play ball, and play so well that you help carry us to the WS again. Show us how good you still think you are. Prove us all wrong and go out there and rake like crazy. If you do, the trade offers you want will come in like crazy, but you may find you like DHing and being a Ranger in the WS better.
